This is amazing and I’m so glad you did this and posted a video. What does the chanter sound like though?

Glad you like them. I need to put out some more.

I guessed correctly, you made them into a good looking set of pipes, and they sound good, I had almost changed my guess.
@sandiegobagpiper Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment. They’re definitely good enough for a beginner to play on and not be frustrated chasing a poorly performing instrument.

Well done, Impressed how well they sound. I picked 2 but only because I thought all the drones were sounding even, I liked it.
@sandiegobagpiper Жыл бұрын
It’s definitely a good sounding set of pipes now.
@jazzman1626 Жыл бұрын
Although number two didn’t sound as steady as the others, they were definitely the best Pakistani pipes I’ve ever heard. Superb job you done on their refurbishment. It’s hard to pick which of the others were my favourites, but if I had to pick one, I think it would be the Glens.
@sandiegobagpiper Жыл бұрын
It’s funny that you say the Glens. They are my favorite set.
@jazzman1626 Жыл бұрын
@@sandiegobagpiper I heard Kyle Howie playing his set of Glens. Very steady balanced superb tone.

Great job and series! I guessed the Pakistani pipe correctly, there’s something very bell-y about the tenors but it’s not a bad thing. Happy new year!
@sandiegobagpiper Жыл бұрын
Good guess. The Pakistani pipes are still lacking in the bass. In real life, the tenors sound great.

Guessed them all right surprisingly haha. Best sounding Pakistani pipes I’ve ever heard. Curious what year the hendersons are. Awesome job with this entire project Edit: never mind just watched the other videos and assuming they’re the 1910s

My ear tells me #1 was the Pakistani pipes. I really love the muted tone of #3 out of all of them. # 4 also had gorgeous tone but were louder.
@sandiegobagpiper Жыл бұрын
I had to go back and watch the video again to remind myself that it was set # 2. It’s cool how the same reeds, in different pipes, tuned to the same pitch all produce a different tone.
@prestonwilde7483 Жыл бұрын
I guessed #2 was the Pakistan set. One thing I noticed is that the other three sets had much richer upper harmonics compared to the Pakistan made set. That being said I think you made some considerable improvements to these drones, well done!
@sandiegobagpiper Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment. Have a listen to the video of me playing different reeds in them, and let me know if you think they sound better.

It would be very interesting hearing a tune played
@sandiegobagpiper Жыл бұрын
If I still had them, I’d play a tune on them. They were given back to the band for them to be used for beginner pipers.
@johnbolt665 Жыл бұрын
As a player I did think No 2 but I really was expecting much worse but useable. Do we know what they sounded like before!
@sandiegobagpiper Жыл бұрын
I didn’t make a before recording. They had a decent tone but very quiet. They weren’t steady at all.
@loymedic Жыл бұрын
Nice work! Did you use the same reeds for all the sets? Also, how much better/reliable were you able to get the strike-in for a band type situation?
@sandiegobagpiper Жыл бұрын
All of the sets used Ezees. I used the same tenors in the Glens and the Pakistanis. However, I destroyed the bass reed going from the Glens to the Pakis. I just threw in an Ezee I had handy.
@loymedic Жыл бұрын
@@sandiegobagpiper any improvement with strike-in?
@sandiegobagpiper Жыл бұрын
Yes. There was no problem with the strike in. I purposely struck in twice on a few of the sets to throw people off a bit.
@johnbolt665 Жыл бұрын
No a tune played on the refurbished ones, we all know that as new they are fire wood!
@byoh100Ай бұрын
Well done, the Pakistani pipes look great but are Tenor dominant in my opinion, needs more bass. Doing this yourself makes it cost effective for you. If someone had to pay to have these improvements made, I guess I would ask “WHY”?? One would be better off purchasing pipes with a reputable bagpipe manufacturer.
@daviddebroux4708 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was on the nose when I guessed what the Pakistani set was. Reason: there was a bit of time spent getting one of the tenors up to pitch while striking in. The others clearly didn't have that issue. I think the bass drone had a marginal if not significant improvement since you refurbished them. By the way, how much did the bass drone stock weigh after you impregnated it?
@sandiegobagpiper Жыл бұрын
Thanks for reminding me of the bass stock. My scale broke, and I couldn’t get a second weight off of it. I’ll hopefully get a new one before I give the pipes back to the band. The pipe is definitely heavier, but it’s obviously not ABW heavy.
@cascadiabagpiper456 Жыл бұрын
Are they all reeded the same?
@sandiegobagpiper Жыл бұрын
They are all Ezees. The reeds in the Glens and the reeds in the Pakis are the same set.

My guess is set #2

That is correct. Good guess.

I Thought it was set Nº 3 I truly wish the Pakistany maker would take notice and change their reputation. I'm also the only , it seems, to get it wrong .... food for thought LOL

You aren’t the only one to get it wrong. I have had many people message me on Facebook who got it wrong.
