Phosphoric Acid... Who knew! Wish i had some of that stuff! Can you set up a camera and do a timelapse of the Phosphoric Acid at work? What part of the country are you in? Is the humidity horrendous where you are at? My experience with the rustoration is the humidity/dew collects on the clean metal and starts new rust within 24 hours. Yours is not re-rusting?

I actually soaked all my engine tins in Phosphoric acid mixed with water (6L of water to 1L of 85% acid) for 8-12 hours. I think i posted a video of it a week ago. google 'Phosphoric acid for rust' for a better explanation of the chemical reaction but it essentially eats away the rust and creates rust resilient metal. I already painted a few pieces. aparently the Phosphoric avid creates ideal conditions for painting and welding. humidity is currently around 60% in Toronto, Canada. I haven't had any issues with the parts rusting over after using the acid. more videos to follow. maybe I'll make a timelapse to show the process. lots of photos on my fb and insta accounts.

SCHWEET! I think someone may have mentioned acid on one of my videos but i had speculation (I have been naive in the past)... so i now have a seeing is believing mentality. Then there is this part that i have lived with family who have a lot of pets and the fear of caustic chemicals around them made everyone uncomfortable... Anyway, that is awesome, thanks for sharing.

The title is misleading. No use of acid is displayed. Maybe goto to college and learn English, get a job and buy a new car.

Silly comment and rather unnecessary. There is no 'How to' moniker or equivalent, he simply discusses '...refurbishing a Volkswagon engine bay with Phosphoric Acid'. I'm not sure a more suitable video title could be sort. Please be encouraging to people who take the time to share their experiences on here. It's an incredibly valuable resource, perhaps the greatest learning tool our civilisation has known. Let's treat contributors with respect. Four years after the original post I have stumbled on here as I embark on my own project. I for one am grateful that this particular hippie took the time to share!
