Stainless steel polish is very easy with the right tools ( hard rope wheel and green paste ) then the blue paste and the fine cloth wheel. Done in 5 min

@@kostassarakinos3062 I think he probably did finish it after, he was just taping it to see if there was actually a difference. Also he can put tape over the logo if the logo can get rubbed off, but I don’t think it would.

@@kostassarakinos3062 the logo and writing are laser etched, you’re not going to “wash off the logo” he should’ve done easily three complete passes with a higher grit cutting compound to remove the deeper scratches and the. Move to polishing also speed is important to overheat the metal or polishing pad

You'd have to use sandpaper to get past all the scratches then keep sanding it with higher and higher grit sandpaper and then finish with what you did.

I reccomend instead using Chrome wheel polish and a microfiber cloth. I got stupid results on an iPod I fixed up a couple months back. It's to the point where I have trouble laying it down lol

Okay so, I’m sure you did ask beforehand but figured I should say this regardless. Don’t do this without talking to the owner. It may just look like he’s doing them a favour but some people have some sentimental value with these things. I also have an old iPod and if they fixed all the scratches and cracks on it, I would actually be pretty mad. Those are memories from when I was a kid and I really value them. Again, I’m sure you don’t really need to hear this, I just wanted to throw this out there :D

I gotta say I’d be really pissed. Now there’s a hard line on the back of the iPod, and if the owner ever wants it to look normal again he’s gonna have to finish polishing it which will remove the logo and all the text from the back.

I doubt it. He wasn’t able to restore it to a high gloss with that polish. That seems to be laser etched into the metal keeping it from blending in unless he went hard as fuck on it intentionally

While the results are impressive, the whole point of the back of an iPod is to act as a skidplate, though the cloudyness can be solved with a dab of metal polish, i hear mags aluminium is great for iPods, though they don’t have that where i live so i stick with brasso (not the greatest but for a quick clean it worked) iPods show their wear, just own it

I used to charge other kids in middle school to “brush” the back of their iPods, it was a durable finish that hid the scratches. Those were the days… still have those iPods too

Not for the metal tho, since it’s just polished aluminum to begin with. You would want to use a heavy metal polish, maybe light wet sand with 3000, so all the scratches go the same way. Heavy and light metal polish and this thing will be like new after lol

If you start with compound, first. Then apply that “wax”. ( I’m assuming it’s wax). It’ll take most of the scratches

I kept mine in a silicone case for the longest time still got alot of scratches. Got no charger for it but last it was full battery it worked 100% fine and had all of my old old songs on it. Along with some nostalgic games and old logos

Use Brasso. We used it to polish everything in the Marine Corps. It works better than anything as long as your hands can handle the amount of work it takes.

My brother had one of these. One day we were visiting my great grandma and we’re pretty far away from home and I was bored. He was watching tv and wouldn’t play with me so because I was mad that “he wasn’t paying attention to me” I chucked it at the concrete floor and shattered it. It still works but it’s disabled for 382 years lol. He’s still mad but we kinda laugh about it now

Cape Cod Polish. I use it to remove minor scratches from my Watches. Jeweler's cloths do much the same.

If you would have used 1500 - 3000 grit sandpaper then use the polishing solution and polishing wheel it would have turned out better just a few tips to help in the future (only works with metal)

It’s just a dremel with a wool polishing pad. There are many different models/ corded, cordless, single speed, adjustable speed. I recommend however handy the cordless is don’t get that one get a corded one with adjustable speeds. The battery ones aren’t very powerful and they run down quick.

Use water paper. Start with a 400 and work your way up to a 2000 and then hit it with some polish. It will shine like brass.
