I have performed this type of repair numerous times on both original Kamados (Japanese), and BGEs. I much prefer working with JB Weld rather than the Rutland. Neither have failed, but the JB Weld finishes much better. Thanks for posting, looking forward to the next segment.

I had a difficult time finding much information on this and my BGE supplier kept telling me I needed to replace it but that was his job to try to sell me something. Anyway its held up well, and I did that repair quite a while back. If I have to do it again, I always have JB Weld on hand. Thank you sir and God Bless!

I wonder if you can add some mesh strips to the JBW or mortar to reinforce the crack?

@@juanitov214 not a bad idea. The fix that you see me doing in this video is holding up really well. R Wayne talked about using JBW and heating it till it flows then allowing it to settle in the groove. JBW sounds like it might be a better solution, but again, this one is holding as well.

which jb weld product do you use? i see an extreme heat that is more of a putty and then im not sure what other jb weld product would hold up to the heat. please advise!

@@fro0tyl0opz The regular JB Weld is fine, it doesn't see near the heat you might think it does. I recently had to use it extensively on a medium BGE, on both the smoke ring and the firebox. Once applied you can hit it with a heat gun and the surface will liquify and you'll get a super smooth, slick finish (if your repair is going to show). I use that trick when filling a gap, apply the JB over the crack/gap and hit it with the heat gun. It liquifies and wicks into space.

Thank you for your comment. If you go back to the beginning of the series of videos you will see I purchased it from someone. I wasn’t intending on even fixing it at all but the young man I bought it from told me how his Dad had cooked family dinners on it for 15 years, so when I took it home, I felt like I needed to refurbish it and give it another life.
