The Rega P1 gets lots of Flak, also here. I am happy it exists, anything that creates an alternative for the really nasty stuff that will only demoralize newcomers in this hobby should be applauded in my opinion. You can buy it as a complete layman and enjoy LP's. That's the market it caters for and it does that job well.

Pleas can you mention the price when you do reviews Phil. It's quite a nice finish. It's best to remove lid when playing LPs on any deck.

it truly is the best budget turntable on the market. you know the greatest thing about it is its ability with tone. people often point at the project and talk about how warm and fuzzy it sounds but if you ever had one and listen to one you'll find over time that it homogenizes the sound. all your left with is this cacophony of same sound regardless of what instrument or type of music you're listening to. now the planar one does have its issues but if you enjoy listening to live music regardless of genre and when you sit down and play a record you want to feel like you're hearing all the tonality and timbre of the music you're listening to then it is the only choice.

This is an entry level turntable and is built to a budget.It’s great to get people into vinyl.

Hi Phil. How can I upgrade the external tonearm cable for the Planar P1 ? Is it removable like the bigger brothers ? I just received my Queen planar P1 and the cabling is as low quality as the plastic RCAs. I saw an older product Rega used to sell that was a RB1000 cable with Neutrik RCAs and sort of a Rega connector. Would that (or something DIY like that) fit the Planar 1 ? It seems the same kind of connector on the underside, but I won´t pull that unless you tell me it´s ok. Thanks for all the great info on the channel.

Just shows entry level turntables aren't all bad. I'm still using a micro seiki MB-10, the entry level turntable from that company. It is slightly modified with better cables and damping and sounds great. I also use a garrard 401 with an audio technica moving coil cartridge in a silicon damped SME arm. Both turntables are a joy to listen to. If this turntable introduces music lovers to the world of vinyl then a great big thumbs up. Ps the motors in both of my turntables are huge compared to modern decks.

I like a good silent movie 😂 just complimented it with a piano in background no feet on the lid that's not very good, get gel sticky feet or felt don't want it rattling about.

I really like that!! I have the P1 in black and done a few upgrades as per your videos. I have a glass plater and a AT-VM95n cartridge and it's amazing now. The wood effect would go nice with my set up

Best upgrade for the P1 is a glass platter. The one from the P3 really makes this deck sound so much better.

In my humble opinion, one would be better off buying a classic turntable from the past. So much to choose from and more likely to hold its value.

the only problem with buying vintage turntables is it's kind of like buying vintage cassette decks, is sure you get it and it works, for a week and then all it's good for is to sit on the shelf and look at. I've had access to so many vintage turntables over the years and almost always all of them have developed problems. if anybody asked me turntable advice I tell them to buy this one and buy new

Move the drive belt under the platter to the smaller groove on the spindle. Very easy to do.

I like the p1. Chuck a new cartridge on it and it sounds great. I don't like fake finishes though. Just like this one they usually look fake.
