WOW. Tom Evans has not only trashed the value of his company, he has also trashed the resale value for owners.

Fuses? 😂 I suppose when your invested interest is selling products, learning how things work and talking about factual knowledge takes a backseat.

I bought my Linn system in the late 90s. Still sounds good. Never a pproblem with it. I would hate to think i was looking for a system now. Everything seems to be Chinese manufactured.

It is interesting with audiophile gear the price tag is what makes it sound good not the electronics.

It makes the 50th anniversary I just bought feel way less special for sure. Bad move by Rega really.

This truly is the audiophile world summed up. “Experts” who talk out of their ass with no engineering background or experience and are so easily impressed by heavy cases and cheap materials marketed to rich morons.

The kicker is, that Mark was carefull not to slag off the principle behind how the unit was designed... He just got in, and fixed it..

Thanks for posting this. I've got a 506-1 that now has an AT VM95e which seems heavier than the stock cart. I thought it was going to require me buying supplementary counterweights (while praying such a thing exists) to get it set up right.

They're apparently named after the designer's daughter so my guess is the correct pronunciation is Fee-on (Welsh name meaning foxglove). They look nice, but the price is way too rich for me, sadly. PS, sorry for sounding like the Welsh pronunciation police

When I was a hifi salesman, back in the 70s and 80s, I fitted cartridges to and set up hundreds of different turntables and arms. My advice is to keep the stylus guard on or flipped down when you balance the arm. There is no detectable weight increase with a flip up stylus guard down and none of any significance with a removable one kept on and you can compensate for that if you want to be very picky by setting the downforce very slightly higher so that its correct when the guard is removed. Its very easy to ruin a stylus tip or cantilever and / or its delicate suspension if you inadvertantly drop the arm and it catches and skids across the mat, or if you brush it with your finger. It has happened to me. You have been warned. By the way, there is little point in buying a stylus downforce guage. High quality pick up arms are very precise balances themselves though maybe not quite so precise with cheaper arms, and often more accurate than a cheap guage. Its such an unnecessary faff anyway. Hi res streaming is the way forward 😊

Excellent. I use a RB250 and a groove tracer upgraded weight. I have found my music is much more punchy and bass more dynamic if I go a little higher on the bias. I normally play a record and slightly adjust it to taste. I also don’t eyeball tracking force. I use a digital stylus gauge for exact settings.

why don't they put the disc wheel on the weight how much is it going to cost the manufacturer quarter of a penny not like these things are cheap. and that's another thing I can't just doesn't need 1.8g, if that's it's half point in the total plus and minus, you adjust it to how you find it best as long as you don't exceed the maximum or the minimum. it is given as a reference and you can go up or down from it's equilibrium ideally by 0.3max . there's no hard fast rule. and I hear this argument that is wrong. central fugal force doesn't play a part that is not science, that is incorrect. and it doesn't ride on the inner groove that is wrong as well it rides on the outer groove because of Central fuga force and it's given pivot point what would cause the arm to ride to the centre the closer it is. that's why if you have a long enough arm at 21" it is compensated for both of these factors no anti skate is required , that's why you have anti skate to compensate this issue. the inner groove is the inner part of the spiral groove not the outer groove of a spiral. it is not difficult to understand but everybody gets it wrong!
