Nice video, but dude, you need to invest in a small Phillips screwdriver! You were making me cringe taking those motor screws in and out.

@@tweakerman Please help, where to buy these screws? I have the same problem! Also, is pulley for RP3 can be also fitted int RP2? The one I've bought seems to be different (I cannot position it with the paper, need to lower it down more to get a proper height. Which is a pain when gluing it)

@@tweakerman Hm..ok, I will then. Speaking of pulley. I've tried to fit aluminum pulley but the diameter at the lower part of the pulley is larger than for plastic pulley and I couldn't really avoid touching the edge of the chassis/body. My pulley was also sitting lower than yours and I couldn't use paper to adjust the height (which makes it really hard to glue it properly). Any advise which pulley to buy exactly for RP2?

I need to replace that suspension belt on my Rega Planar 3. I've had it since the early 90's. Bought it from a guy who had tried to improve the tone arm cable, but failed. I was able to replace it with a 5 pin din connector (larger than normal) in Japan and modify the Van den Hal cable and an AudioQuest Topaz tone arm cable to fit just right. The tec used so much solder that the cable extended straight down so much that I had to get new longer feet to elevate the whole table in order to not have the cable holding up the plinth. Last year I got a new subplatter. Deepgroove and new Ruby bearing.

I had a Systemdeck turntable. I found an improvement if I dismounted the motor completely from the chassis and placed it on a separate base (made of MDF) just about a millimeter below the chassis. The fact that the motor vibrations no longer made its way directly into the rest of the turntable gave me an improvement in the sound quality.

I think Rega use loctite, if you use epoxy it will be almost impossible to remove if required where as super glue or locktite can be removed with acetone.

exact, but the right one to fix screws, not the green one which is used to fix bearing bush. The turntable motor has not the torque moment of a Bently motor

dont get that jacket idea personally. the rubber belt does the job. to me it would make more sense to have a sorbothane gasket between the motor and the plate that holds the mounting belt.

Just a quick question un related to this upgrade how did you get on with counter weight upgrade as I have an rb 300 and been looking at upgrades. Also have you rewired the tonearm?

To put screws back in you need to reverse a little to you feel it click then you know it's seated at the start.

Hi, Nice Video - what is the app you are using to check RPM? I have a Planar 2 and the motor spindle seems to be slipping inside the pulley so I guess I need to glue it.

And now, with that o-ring "suspension" you created variable shaft displacement(torsion and bending stress). Am I right? Does that affect angular velocity?

Absolutely. You get the 'bob' effect from torque especially on startup. For this reason you must only super glue gel the pulley in position while the motor is hanging. What is shown in the video is incorrect.

Okay. So here at the Autistic Turntable Company we have changed many of these parts. If you are going to replace the suspension belt, which in your case is very tight indeed, I would definitely add a sorbothane pad on top of the motor to prevent noise and vibration passing through. Very difficult to gauge in that manner the height to place the belt as you are placing card under the pulley before glueing when in reality the pulley will bob up and down and side to side due to torque. This is particularly evident on startup. Finally, unlike shown in the video, never ever use araldite or an epoxy resin to glue on the pulley. This is so wrong. Try getting off a pulley glued with Araldite, especially if you then find the belt height is wrong and as the suspension belt becomes older and slacker. Always use super glue gel if possible, or if not super glue which is runny and slightly less manageable. Then, if removal is necessary you can use nail varnish remover, acetone down the motor shaft while covering the motor to prevent damage. We like the DIY approach in the video when correct but some items here simply are Not .
