I have a tomboyish style too and when I cut my hair super short for the first time I was in grade 8, other younger grades would ask me if I was a boy or a girl. It's sad how kids are brought up with the idea of short hair = boy and long hair = girl. It got to me at first but after a while I enjoyed proving societal standards wrong. People can think whatever they want. It's down the middle of my back now and I'm gonna do it all over again I can't wait it's so much more comfortable than long hair.

I think the insecurity was great for me. My pixie cut didn't go as planned the first time and it was a work in progress. I hid behind my hair for years, so I was able to become used to showing myself through that experience. I learned that my hair is not the only thing that makes me feel good about myself. I've been growing out my hair, but honestly, I'm probably going to pixie cut it again. When I did some deep soul searching I felt like I'm not ready to go back to long hair and trying would only cause me stress.

Some things that have happened to me is EVERYTHING changed. From my makeup, to my clothes, and the way I carry myself. I no longer recognize who I am BUT it has been the best change I could have done. It’s like my whole perspective has changed. I look at who I am now in the mirror and have to learn who she is. She is reminded or who she was called to be before all of the hair coloring and different makeup techniques to match the hair. It’s like I started afresh but became who I truly am. Since my hair is natural again, I am myself again but still a new me. (If that makes sense) I know wear the proper colors for my hair and complexion and it makes a world of a difference. You see me again and not my “hair” or my “makeup” or my “outfit” you see who I was created to be. Besides the awkward hair grow stages I am going to be entering in, 😅 the world now has to be ready for who I truly am without all the “extra” layers. ❤
@SalmaMoPeace8 жыл бұрын
That is so strange, cuz I am the complete opposite... I feel so confident and so "me" when I cut my hair pixie, I also get used to it right away... And I don't have to style it at all, just brush it for 5 seconds, it just looks right the way it is; but when I had longer hair I was so lazy and it just has to be styled in order to look presentable :D

Im just now catching this video a week into cutting my hair short and you are making me feel so not alone! That free feeling and boost of confidence everyone said i would have is bullshit. I felt super insecure for the first 5 days of this hair cut. Not to mention this being the first time my hair has ever been this short I do not know how to style it and my stylist did not show me. Also she cut off my sideburns which keeps a lot of the femininity of a short pixie. I too am also layering on the makeup, heavy of the bb cream and mascara. I cant wait until this cut grows out to a comfortable length.

this is a thing that happened when I got a bob cut before a pixie (so I could get used to having less hair) and for the first month or two I kept going back to pull my hair out of my shirt after I put it on and every time I was like "oh..... I forgot that I have no hair to pull out"

Maybe that will make me happy so I am also really excited and I have seen bunch of videos on youtube about pixies. This year has been tough. I lost someone important and as now I will do it 5.1 it can be a nice different start to hopefully a better year! I want to feel mentally better and be confident in myself. I'll have to do an update video! I'm in the process of growing it out right now after having it for a year and styling a longer pixie is super different from a short one like I had. All I used to do was blowdry my cowlick at the front so it didn't stick up and then use Kevin Murphy's Gritty Business pomade for texture. This pomade is the bomb.com! I highly recommend it for short hair. It's kind of expensive, but lasted me a year.

I got a pixie cut for the first time a little over a year ago, and I’m not sure I will ever turn back. I think the only downside for me is that I feel I need to wear girlier clothes now when I go out in public (so people know I’m a girl) since I too have more of a tomboy style, but it hasn’t been hard so far. Also, I feel this is kind of rare, but I have never had to style my pixie cut. Never did when I had it shorter and I don’t now that it has grown out way passed my eyes. All I need to do it comb my hair and it looks how I want it to. Guess I just got lucky.

I've wanted a pixie cut for a while. I had pretty long hair and before school started I cut it to sorta bob/shoulder length hair. I love it so much more than my long hair. I have thin hair that always got tangled and now it's soft and healthy. The thing is I still want short hair. Recently I told my mom that I wanted to cut it, and I got totally negative feedback. She said "why do I want to look like a boy so much" and "it won't look good on you, the only people that it can suit is thin feminine girls, otherwise you'll just look like a boy" I'm not thin, but I'm not fat either. I have a squareish roundish face and pretty average body. Another thing is that I've always been told i look amazing in buns and ponytails, so is there much of a difference between that and a pixie cut? I've wanted to do this for so long and I really wish I could convince her. Does anyone have an advice? I'd really like to do this and personally I'm afraid. I've never been a person to care too much about what others say, but I do a little in this I guess.
@ReganShorter8 жыл бұрын
Pretty. Odd If this is something you want to do, DO IT! Your mom and anyone else who doesn't like it will get over it. Remember it's your hair and your body... which means you're the one in control of it. Go get that pixie and ROCK it!

I'm super tomboy (no dresses, skirts, makeup, basically any girly clothing except the things I can't control) I've had my pixie/short hair now for almost 4 years and love it more and more each day. I look back on old pics and videos of myself from when I had long hair and I looked way too young/unconfident and uncomfortable talking on camera compared to now. 3 things I get though that sort of bug me: 1) the back of my hair grows really quickly (thick hair problems), 2) I get mistaken for being a boy but to be honest with you I don't mind it now, 3) CRAZY BED HAIR!! Great for the weekend....not so much for work

The great thing about hair is that it can grow back! Before you cut it, think about the time commitment. You'll need to style it in the mornings (I never styled my long hair) and you'll need to get it cut more often. Consider those before making the big change!

I had always had long hair so when I cut it I thought I would regret it to some degree. I actually loved it! I couldn't stop playing with it. I have a very strong jaw and thick eyebrows and I loved how it brought out and surprisingly softened the features. I think the biggest thing I noticed was a lot of people didn't recognize me with my short hair. They had to do a double take. Although, I got a lot of positive feedback I got pontytail envy and began to grow back my hair. I got to admit I will probably never cut my hair that short again. Not because I didn't love my pixie but because I cannot stand the grow out phase. One more weird thing, my husband loved that I would get a small mullet. I don't know why. Hahahaha
@ReganShorter8 жыл бұрын
Katey Stene haha that's hilarious about the mullet! I totally love my pixie, but am in the process of growing it out because upkeep is so expensive. How long did it take for you?
@SimplyjustKatey8 жыл бұрын
+Regan Shorter I started growing it out in December. My hair was about your length (in the video) It took me approximately 7 months to get it into the bob stage. Now it is a slightly longer bob with 3 distinctive layers. (The longest layer is about shoulder length while the shortest layer is about chin level and the mid layer is in between.) The layering was not intentional just an effect of the grow out process. To kind of soften the layering I got bangs so the shortest layer would not appear sooo, well, short. Overall, for the first time in my grow out process my hair cut looks like I intentionally cut it this way. Unfortunately, for my husband that means no more mullet hahah. Honestly though, I hardly wear it down any more. About a month ago I realized I no longer needed bobby pins to keep my hair in a ponytail. Ever since then I've been wearing it in back. This new discovery allows me to go a couple of more days without washing my hair (I usually wash every 2 days but If I pull it back I can squeeze in 3 maybe 4 days) I know this sounds disgusting but it has really helps my hair grow and stay shiny!

Katey Stene Not disgusting at all! I'm trying to reach the short bob stage, but am getting so impatient. I also have about a million layers, so I'll probably get the back trimmed and sides evened out in a month. It's a constant struggle not to just cut it all off again!

+Regan Shorter I must say I was very scissor happy they first few months. I had to constantly make sure growing out my pixie didn't look too awkward. But the truth of the matter was--Nothing helped. I was so tempted to shave my head. At about 4 months I gave up going to hair stylist and started cutting my mullet myself. I'm not sure if the hairstylist was cutting more than I wanted or my hair was just at that stage where it appeared to be growing faster. I look back at pictures from April and it's crazy how much my hair since then. My best advice for growing out is imbrace the awkwardness! And go out and get yourself a collection of hair band and bobby pins... They will be your best friend. Around month 5-6 I always twist my front layers into a braid and pinned it next to my ear. This gave the illusion of a bob. (My bottom and mid layers were about the same length but my top layers were definitely not) These was probably the hardest months for me because I definitely didn't look like I had a pixie cut and without the bobby pins and head band I looked like a skaterboy (Or what I dubbed Paul McCartney haircut). At about 7 months out the layers evened out enough to look like a bob. And now at month 9 almost 10 I feel really comfortable with my hair. I'm predicting that I will have a Lob style hair cut by the end of month 12. Honestly, I'm exxcited for when all my layers past my shoulders.

Oh my gosh, I feel like I look like a skater boy anytime I try to wear a hat. I don't know how other girls with long pixies do it, but it is just not a good look for me. I need to grab some bobby pins this week! It's really encouraging to hear how quickly you got yours to a bob. That's my end goal and I'm happy to hear it didn't take you multiple years!

Thinking about getting a pixie... I am 14 and have shoulder length hair... SHOULD I OR NO?
@ReganShorter6 жыл бұрын
A few things to think about: (1) Will you be able to maintain it? Are you and your parents prepared to get it cut more often, and are you prepared to style it daily? (2) What cut will you get? I always vote for a longer pixie first while you adjust to the shock. Then you can go shorter for your next cut, or if you don't like it at all, you can grow it out. (3) If you grow it out, it does take almost a year. I'm always on board for cutting it, but you've got to make sure it will work for you and your lifestyle!

Why do so people assume if u have short hair you’re gay? How short your hair is or whatever your style is doesn’t always mean someone is gay duh

I'm not the most feminine looking girl (facially) and dress more like a 'boy' (so I'm told 😏) and don't wear much makeup, so when I first got my pixie cut a wee girl came up to me and asked, without any malice, if I was a boy or a girl. At first I was taken aback but then thought 'screw the gender binary!', and kind of revelled in it. Now I have short bobbed hair to my chin which is shaved underneath about halfway up my head, so the new thing is 'can I touch it' 😂. You really suit your cut!
@ReganShorter8 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I've never been a super feminine dresser, but at the beginning I felt like I overcompensated a lot with makeup. I got used to it over time though too! How long did it take you to grow out your hair? I think I'd like to transition back to a short bob so I can wear hats again!

+Regan Shorter hey, i have kind of a bob right now and for me it took like...6 or 7 months to grow it out i think, I had a pixie before but it wasn't really really short

+Cristelle Bresciani I have about 2 months of growth and it just looks like a long pixie now haha. Getting the back trimmed next week to alleviate the mullet
@michcookies8 жыл бұрын
+Regan Shorter I was the same! Think it was the only time I really wore skirts or pink! I'd went from bra strap length though to pixie, so was a massive shock in the different way that people began acting towards me. Didn't realise how much I hid behind my hair, felt very exposed! So used to it now, but don't think I'd ever go back to long hair. Mines was shaved in at the sides, so that was May last year and it was end of Aug/mid Oct same year that I had it tidied up to the short bob I have now. Shaved underneath so i I want I can tie my hair up and have the short hair i want. During the growing out process I became a pro with kirby/Bobby pins!!

Now I have to wake up like an hour earlier to actually do my hair because bed head..... 😅 but I will say I'm actually getting a lot more attention from everyone (compliments, flirts, people wanting to talk to me)😂 I'm not saying I don't enjoy it😉

YES! I agree, I eventually got over wearing extra makeup everyday. It was my security blanket at first, but then I felt super confident with my hair and didn't feel like I needed it anymore. The attention is a lot of fun though... having short hair is a blast! I loved standing out from the crowd.
