Indonesians are the distant cousins of Filipinos who also have lots of great singers like Anggun who is internationally successful since the late 90s or Voice of Germany 2019 winner Claudia Emanuela Santoso who like Morissette is a tiny person with a giant voice. And yes a lot of Indonesians live in Holland and a lot of ingredients for Asian food are imported to Europe by Dutch firms and some of the best Nasi goreng is in Amsterdam. Magellan who landed in the Philippines in 1521 was actually trying to get to the Moluccas, the Spice Islands where the Portuguese traded with local Sultans - he just got blown a few thousand miles up North crossing the Pacific with very basic navigation. Those islands later became Dutch and finally Indonesian. They say the inhabitants of Sulawesi are the most similar to Filipinos but I don't really know I NEVER have been to Indonesia.

Always love this video 😁👍 not 100% accurate, but decent enough to know deeper about Indonesia 👍 Ty so much Mike n Jess for ure fun, thoughtful oppinion, great video as always. Blessings ❤️ btw about the religion register ... basically Indonesia recognizes these religions as its official/national religion - meaning, all of them have equal status in the constitution - Indonesia is a religious country (so it's not secular) but the law and constitution isn't based on one particular religion. It's not islam country, christian country, hindu country and so on ... but the law/constitution still uses 'universal' rule of each religion
@arenaling
@arenaling Ай бұрын
Also for religion register, is also it helps you when you need specific actifities or accomodation for you religion. because Indonesia is religious country then we have to protect and give facilities according to our religion. Other than 6 registered religion then you won't be get any religion protection, it is not breaking the law but you know if there are no religion protection you need very carefully to do your religious activities.

Indonesia's land area is 1.905 million km2, has almost 18,000 islands with the 5 largest islands namely Kalimantan, Papua, Sumatra, Sulawesi & Java. Then the number of active volcanoes is approximately 400, but those that are truly active & have erupted several times in the last decade are approximately 7 volcanoes with the number of fatalities due to volcanic eruptions reaching hundreds of people, the most are on the island of Java, followed by the island of Sumatra. Such as the eruption of Mount Merapi, Mount Kelud & Mount Bromo on the island of Java. Then there was the eruption of Mount Sinabung & Mount Marapi on the island of Sumatra. Then about the series of earthquakes that are experienced every day in Indonesia, the man who acts funny in the video describes as if it happens throughout Indonesia and causes damage to infrastructure and casualties every day every time an earthquake occurs, what's the hack? 😱 Even on the island of Kalimantan, the largest island in Indonesia, earthquakes are very rare, it could even be said that there has never been any news of an earthquake there, whether on the smallest scale or the largest scale, be it tectonic earthquakes or volcanic earthquakes, then on the island of Kalimantan it is also very high. There are very few volcanoes, it's true, there is a famous volcano there called the Kinabalu volcano, but it is in Malaysian territory. What is presented by the man who pretends to be funny in the video really needs to be looked at in detail, because he himself has only come to Indonesia once and I'm sure he only visited for a short time, but there are not many places he has explored in Indonesia. In conclusion, what he conveyed was not just the cover in detail, so the impression is that the Indonesian region is really scary to visit because of the terror of earthquakes & volcanic eruptions every day so that it makes both of you feel very afraid hearing it & it seems like it will change your mindset about the region. Indonesia is very unsafe to be used as a tourist destination because of these two factors. 😂 This is similar to the terror of hurricanes in the US every year, will the threat of natural disaster terror change people's mindsets to think a hundred times about visiting & traveling to the United States? Of course not, the same goes for Indonesia, this will not have a significant effect on the interest of foreign tourists in visiting and traveling to Indonesia. On the contrary, every day, every week, every month and every year the number of foreign tourists coming to Indonesia is increasing sharply.

Java island is not actually that small 02:30. When you see it by the "size" of map, indeed it might be looking quite small, but don't get fooled. It's just a matter of adjusted perception. Since the Earth is round (globe-shape) but maps are flat, so anything close to the Equator line would looks smaller in maps vs the reality. Java island territory itself has a total land size of 128,297 km², which is already larger than the whole Portugal (92,152 km²), about similar to Greece (131,957 km²), and half of Italy (302,073 km²). And no, if you think Taiwan is somewhat close, no. It's actually four times larger than Taiwan (36,197 km²). If you've ever came across a website which compare the "actual" size of each country in the world by map (there is one if you googled it, I forgot the name), the total length of Indonesian archipelago from west to east, is actually almost similar to western Europe and UK's length combined.

In regards of your question about religions, Indonesia only recognise 6 religions, which means only these 6 religions will be supported by government in terms of national days, religious activities and religious temples/places and the religious status on your ID card. If your religion is not included there, you can choose one of the 6 religions for your ID card.

The issue of religious affiliation in Indonesia doesn't necessarily involve explicitly choosing one of the six recognized religions. Instead, it stems from the country's foremost ideology, which underscores the belief in one God for all individuals. Therefore, one either adheres to a specific religion or is classified under "belief in one God."

In Indonesia, your religion should be registered and it will appeared on your natinal ID card. Though Indonesia have 6 official religions, that doesn't mean all local/tribal religious system/beliefs are non-existence (there are people who have their own folk religion/belief). These local/tribal/folk religious beliefs mostly incorporated into some of the official religiois practices in locality, or practiced under the umbrella of those official religions. That is why you will find some very unique religious traditions accross Indonesia. Like in Java, threre are peoole who practiced shamanism, or ethnic religious practices (mixed of Hinduism, Animism, Paganism, Shamanism, even some influenced by Chinese tradition,etc) those practices are incorporated into Islamic or Christian practices on daily basis (They call it Muslim Kejawen or Kristen Kejawen), and in other region they also have their own unique religios practices too. For example muslim or christians though in official religious teaching, people are not allowed for example to visit and pray in graves, offering food or drink to the dead in graves, this kind of thing still practiced by many Indonesian especially on some major religious days, muslims or christians they will visit graves of their family members, clean them, spread flowers with water. In some region they will bring food and drink that the dead used to like when they were alive. This definitely not condone by both Islam or Christian teachings, but these practices are still allowed as they are being assimilated into religious practices. As people also offer prayer based on their official religion prayers in place of chants or make wishes. Asking the dead, medium, ghost believing, supernatural believing are still very much practiced by many Indonesians too inspite of the teachings of official religions contradict those practices. So yes there are 6 official religions in Indonesia that one must registered to, demander by law, but in practices it is a whole different story. So yes Indonesia by statistic have the largest muslims population (registered), that doesn't necessarily means all those people registered as muslims are practicing muslims by its book. And the same goes for christians. The rising numbers of atheists in Indonesia also high basically but because law demanded it, they mosyly registered as having one of those 6 religions that their parents affilated with mostly. These nominal muslims or christians only celebrating relugious holidays or feasts as cultural thing but they do not practice any religious practice at all. So Indonesia have all these kind of beliefs and religious practices that are under the umbrella of the 6 officoal religions. 6 official religions are there for censure basically, and for statistic purpose for the government. But not all of them who registered under one relugion actually practice the religion. I'd say we have many atheists, pagans, animists, dynamists, folk/tribal religious groups, so on too unoffically. Remote tribes mostly have theit tribal beliefs that are not affiliated with any official religion too. Like some remote tribes in Papua.

Yes, it is true that each region has its own language, but we are united by the national language (Indonesian). Each region has 2 language levels, some also have 3 language levels such as Javanese and Sundanese (Respectful language, loma language, rude language). Example in Sundanese 3 level: "You" Indonesian language its "kamu". "You" In smooth Sundanese "anjeun or salira" "You" in loma sundanese "Maneh" (Can only be used to talk to friends or people you already know, cannot be used to talk to older people or people you have just met) "You" in rude sundanese "sia or silaing" (Used when really angry or yelling, but there are several areas in Sunda that use this to talk to peers, It is prohibited to use when talking to new people or older people).

our ancestors were Hindu and animism devotees. before Hindu came in our ancestors embraced animism. This belief sill has strong influence when people started to embraced hindu. Until today the animism belief still has some influence in every religion in Indonesia, e.g. people are still practicing black and white magic in many regions. Nether Islam, nor hindu/budha/catholic/christian teach magic black /white magic, the use of special incense, mystic oil, 7 type of flowers, doll, etc indicate that animism is still strongly ingrained the people's life.

Technically Indonesia was more closer to the Soviet Union during the Cold War, not the US. There were also speculations that said the US funded and supported Soeharto, the second president, to depose the first president, Soekarno and replace him as a brutal anti-communist. The first president was very close with the Soviet Union and communism. Also, Indonesia has the Krakatoa Island which has the Krakatoa Volcano. The loudest sound ever recorded was caused by the Krakatoa Volcano on May 20th, 1883. The sound was heard 1300 miles away in the Bay of Bengal. The reason why Indonesians somewhat love or atleast don't hate Japan is because Japan came not as an invasion, but more of a liberation. The Japanese came, although at first they were more brutal than the Dutch, but slowly they became more and more like an ally of Indonesia. They helped prepare the Indonesians to be independent, and even promised to give independence on August 24th, 1945. But, Japan surrendered on August 15th, 1945 by the Emperor so Indonesia proclaimed independence 2 days later. A positive side of the Dutch colonization of Indonesia was the modernization they brought with them. They built roads, buildings, and schools for the indigenous people there. Although, the Dutch came and deprive Indonesians of their valuable natural resources and the people suffers a lot. The schools were first opened only to Europeans and other foreigners. It was soon opened to indigenous people hundreds of years later. The Dutch colonized Indonesia for around 350-360 years. When the Japanese came in 1942, the people cheered for them as they were seen as liberators. The religion Islam or Muslim was speculated to have came from traders. The reason why today Islam is the number one religion is because of how easy it is. During the Hindu-Buddhist Era, to become a Hindu or a Buddhist, you must reach the specific requirements which were very difficult and hard to maintain. A monk or theologist of Hindu must not come into contact with a person on a lower class. If they do, they are stripped of their title as a theologist. This is why Islam was favored more. To become muslim you have to simply say with conviction the shahada (declaration of faith): “La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammadur rasoolu Allah,” one converts to Islam and becomes a Muslim. Because of this simplicity, many people favored Islam.

Registering your religion, is helping for every aspect of your life, goverment serve people based on their religion. Not to discriminate but to facilitate by state. From birth of baby, then marriage basicly vow to God so you have to clear what religion you follow, then last is death, what process cremation or burial is based on the religion. And yes Indonesia is kinda like a religious country, we kinda serious to it, sometimes my christian friend reminder me to pray, and so me to, remind my friend to go sunday school if they lazy. 😅 the most advantage all of that is we have many national holiday. We celebrate every religion as for respect.

Its always fun watching reactions for 🇮🇩 Geonow 😆. Even us Indonesians are amazed by the facts😅 Registering religion as in its written on our national ID card. I feel here in Indonesia, asking ones religion is not that taboo. Its just that you have the right to practice your religion such as making sure you get the appropriate religion subject taught in your school or receive burial based on what your religion was. An update/correction: Its not just the 6 major religions because we have so many local beliefs based. Though resources for the other religions might be harder to find.

yes everybody have to registered in one of those 6 religion, if you're not from any of those, you have to choose the closest teaching of your religion, or if you have not or non of it close at all, just choose what you know better. The function of it is for the religion holiday, so when you're working, your company will let you have your holiday (beside the national holiday), and also for the holiday allowance money. And also people has said it, if (knock the wood) you're got an accident on the street and can't find your family or relatives, so they can't inform them, they'll look into your ID card, and then they'll do the burial thing by your religion.

Imagine 4th population in the world, 17000 islands that stretches like from London to Tehran, which is longer than the continental US from east to west, and they have been successfully having single-payer healthcare. Yet the richest country in the world keeps arguing that we can't do it because we're to big. We're third in population, only one above them, we don't have 17000 islands that create logistical and governance nightmare, our east to west is not as spread out as Tehran to London, and our GDP is way bigger than Indonesia, yet they can have single-payer healthcare, while we can't. Make it make sense.

Atlantis : The Lost Continent Finally Found (The Definitive Localization Of Plato's Lost Civilization) Indonesia Ternyata Tempat Lahir Peradaban Dunia. After thousands of years, so many of us still search for the answer to the mystery of Atlantis. From time to time, archaeologists and historians locate evidence. There have been many locations proposed for the location of Atlantis. Ever since the first recorded history of Atlantis, written by the Greek philosopher Plato over 2,300 years ago, debate has raged as to whether or not Atlantis ever really existed. The existence of Atlantis is supported by the fact that it is described in great details by Plato In additions, various conditions, events and goods unknown to Plato are also described in detailed and lengthy words. The recent knowledge of late glacial and postglacial sea level rise and land subsidence that occurred almost precisely at the time described by Plato also becomes strong evidence to the truth of the story. Plato describes the Atlantis from point of views of geography, climate, plain layout, city layout, river and channel hydraulics, produces, social structure, customs, mythology and its destruction in details including their dimensions and orientations. These become the subjects of the author to hypothesize that the lost city of Atlantis is in Java Sea.

Yeah mostly because of our religion. We tend not to hold grudge of what happened in the past, forgive them and move on from it. And that's why I am very confused when I saw for example some Korean (South) still hold grudges with Japanese even after soo many years, it appears that their family told their kids to not be friend with Japanese people, soo yeah that grudge are still passed down to their future generations.
