This was recorded in this day, several years ago. Fate brought me to this video for some reason. I haven’t even listened to it and I am sure of this fact.

A spectacular performance! Thank you so much for sharing this with me by email, Jens. Among many other things, I love how you not only play the instrument (which is glorious, indeed), but how you play the ROOM (acoustics)!

Don't forget about the Cavaille-Coll in Notre Dame, as well as the Cavaille-Coll in Ouen Rouen, and The Van Den Heuvel of St. Eustache.

St. Ouen, yes. The Van den Heuvel will hopefully be replaced during the next generation.

Great performance on a tailor-made instrument; it is known that Max' preferrered organmaker was Wilhelm Sauer..
Thanks!! It was an incredible experience playing Reger on this organ & space...

Ist ja mal ein angenehmer Reger. Super gespielt.

Can anyone explain how the pre sets on these Sauer organs work? It looks ingenious but complicated!

I'll give it a try: those are NEITHER *fixed* (unalterable) combinations NOR our types of adjustable combinations the way we know them in North America, the UK, Australia and other English-speaking countries. They are *"free"* general combinations that are meant to be alterable either by the organist or - FAR MORE OFTEN!!! - registrants (expect at least one, more often two or even 3 or 4!!!) while a given piece is being played. While the organist is working on one setting, the registrant(s) are busy preparing the other combinations (represented by the smaller knobs) depending on how many such settings need to be prepared. The organist will shift between the main-registration ("Handregistrierung") and the other "free-combinations" as needed AND as the latter are set up by the registrants. [There can be as few as *1* or as many as *4* such extra combinations - from what I've understood, the Berlin-Domorgel has *THREE* such combinations in addition to the main registration (which - aside from whatever changes the overall crew makes in the meantime - is always there for the organist to go back to, or to one of the other two combinations as he sees fit.] Most certainly, they're better than nothing (a few organs by Schlicker were so made in the USA with that "free-combination system"); however, it's many times better with our adjustable-combinations that we most often deal with, particularly if we have enough of them per individual level (and having multiple levels helps that much more); especially if we wish to dispense with either or both of registrants plus page-turners. Here we can do well to remember Leonardo da Vinci's maxim "You are most yourself when you're alone!" [That way you don't have to submit to what somebody else may have in mind...] I know my writing style isn't of the best, so please feel free to ask me questions as you see fit.
