I’ve heard a few stories over the years but can’t be sure myself, one was that Reggae came from a song by Toots called Do the Reggay,
@Millwall77 Жыл бұрын
I dont know if its where it came from but its supposed to be the first song using the word in the lyrics. That's what I have read anyway.

Toots Hibbert invented the word reggae.
@Reggi_Sample11 ай бұрын
He was the first, it came from the word streggae which meant rough

Ok, but where did the word Reggae come from?
@johnthemainguy9059 Жыл бұрын
@stevenevents Ah, thank you! I suspected something along those lines.
@Millwall77 Жыл бұрын
Bunny Lee has stated that 'streggae' was it first name which is slang for a (sexually) loose woman but they thought it wouldnt catch on so they shortened it. Dont know how true it is but I heard it in a french documentary in the 90's, got it on VHS in my collection.

You guys always tell about a quarter of the story with about a quarter of it being accurate. Sound Systems started out in the 1940s and 50s - not the 60s. Ska was an evolution of R&B not Mento. Mento was Jamaican Calypso, the Sound Systems were playing US R&B not Mento. So much inaccuracy that this pretty little video becomes quite meaningless. Do try a little harder please. 😂

You can’t talk about the early history of Reggae and not mention the name of Peter Tosh. I mean you can’t mention Bob Marley a d forget to mention the person who taught him the guitar🎸 . That was gross ignorance by the compiler of the documentary.🚮

Old fake news. Peter didnt teach guitar to Bob. Just a gossip from roger stephens
@kimrandom1765 ай бұрын
Relax buddy, it's only a 3min summary of Reggae's history. There're a lot of important people who weren't mentioned... And all that thing about Peter being the one teaching Bob to play guitar is just an urban legend.
