By the 1990s Xterminator Records was one of the most vibrant record labels in Jamaica and had two of the biggest stars in Luciano and Sizzla Kalonji. But before the decade ended, internal tensions forced Luciano to quit the label

It's a shame because the 2 songs they have together are absolute classic!🔥 The song that Sizzla sang that Luciano was upset with, the chorus goes....."smoke the herb and get a humble thought, babylon couldn't stop this one ah bomberclaart!"

This was a next level analysis of the situation. Rastafari consciousness has always been spread through the music, & catching Rasta Fire in the late 90's & early 2000's, one can actually see the ripple effects of the change in content of the music, how it altered the approach & outlook of Rasta youth to self expression with in Rastafari movement. When Sizzla dropped "Smoke de Herb", "Blaze Up de Chalwa", & toasting on hip hop beats, there emerged a noticeable change in the attitudes of the fan base. A more rugged, gangster swagger & language became more prevalent. As opposed to the humble righteousness talk of the "Sweep Over My Soul" era. Anyway loved the artistic expression of both artists as both spoke me & my own nuanced character. Respect the contribution of both artists to reggae & Rastafari movent. Sizzla's deviation is important because it opened the ganre to offshoots like Mavado, Munga & other who seamlessly blend topics classic Rasta consciousness & street life. Big Up Reggae music it remains the seminal platform for us to express the truth of our time. Big up Reggea Appreciation Society for the great content

Luciano wasn't 100% straight-up in his interview! The main reasons they couldn't coexist was because Sizzla was hailing haile Selassie straight while Luciano was in doubt about the divinity of His Majesty. He was a "Lord Jesus Bible Rasta" while Sizzla was pure fire burning everything in the name of his majesty... Luciano in an interview with beat magazine stated that he only saw his majesty as a great man like Martin and Jesus who came did some work and passed on. This wasn't taken well by Rastafarian as he Luciano was go around pro-claiming himself a rasta with red gold and green all over his person.

This channel is really incredible. Thank you for sharing your passion for the music and the history. This 90’s era is when I really began to love reggae music deeply, and Luciano is one of my all time favorites. I remember being disappointed in seeing Sizzla straying from the positive and righteous vibes by the end of the 90’s, but I never knew the full story about what was going on behind the scenes at Xterminator. For me, I put 90’s Xterminator right up there with Studio One and The Black Ark as simply magical times in reggae we’ll never see again.

@@coalman1351 I agree. That one lyric wouldn't be enough for him to leave, so clearly there must be far more to his decision. What that was, only he can say. I can only speak for myself. As a fan of Sizzla's early music, I didn't care for the direction he went afterwards. I don't judge Sizzla as a man or an artist, but I do get to decide what music I consume, just as I choose what kind of foods I consume. My guess Luci decided Xterminator was no longer a healthy environment for him and his mission.

My longtime friend tried to get me into sizzla back in early 2000s but I couldn't dig it until just a few years ago. It was better than what most kids in America for the last decade so I embraced it, but I really see what Luciano was saying. What do you ites think, is there good new artists these days, rather are than just the greats still pumping out hits? If so, who? I can't stand American music these days, it's like Luciano said, it's opposite of the greats. Anyway, bless you all

I can say the same thing with "Messenger," New day, Jah the Navigator I could go on and on. With Sizzla I have only listened to his Thank you mama and praise ye Jah. Luciano has no match. He stays away from "Controversy". He did this with warrior king. Sizzla is like a young brother who thinks he doesn't need advice or opinions. He is like so many youths nowadays . I hope he grows up. Luciano left on his own accord. Sizzla don't have to write to luciano dictates. Luciano was the man for a long time and when sizzla start getting the attention luciano started becoming uncomfortable with jealousy crept in. Why didn't fatis take the step if he had a problem. Luciano felt entitled and think he can push his agenda . He talk to much that's why he always have to apologise after.

Stop spreading this false notion about jealousy luciano is right because I felt the same way as a fan. I was turned off by sizzla new direction moving away from black woman and child conciousness to singing slackness and gun lyrics. Eventually Sizzla did find his way back to concious songs but still not becaue you are a fan that doesnt mean you should not call out an artiust when they lose their way.
