Sly only made 2 albums and 1 was a live. His music was soft for cross over. Music and outfits were dated. Strictly a studio band. I know the Wailers blew them out the water with that raw funky sound.

You pretty much CONFIRMED what everybody knew. The Wailers were what Sly and the Family sold themselves to their audience as: conscious, modern rebels, but it was like the Ali Baba tale where the merchant sold the natives as as salt until a merchant arrived and sold the natives real salt, and that was the end of Ali.

I had no idea this went down. I’ve lost all respect for Sly and the Family Stone. ETA: was born in ‘73 but still a huge fan of music from that era.

Marley is way overrated as a musician. He had more social influence than musical. Stone is a musical genius. Marley is a mediocre musician.

Oh please! I’m not buying that at all. It was probably over a woman, as both Sly and Bob were notorious F-Boys. Add drugs to the mix and who knows. Sly’s alive, ask him!

Jamaicans rejected Rastas now they want to claim them as their own😂 Bob wanted his Afro descent people in the struggle for freedom in the USA to hear him. " Play I on the R and B, I want all my people to see "

Reggie is fine, its incredible they made an entire genre of a single song. However, sly was so much more innovative and diverse in sound than all of reggae put together.

I remember seeing Yabby at the Sierra Music Festival 20+ years ago. He absolutely blew us all away with songs like Judgement Time and Walls Of Jerusalem. One thing we didn't know about Yabby You until we saw him was his disability. Like the members of Israel Vibrations, he seemed to have a hard time getting around. Maybe childhood Polio or maybe issues from working at the foundry. Whatever the case, what a great songwriter and a great man. Thank you for keeping these artists alive! 🙏

By the time this concert took place, the Commodores were already going in a much more Pop, Ballad and Country Music direction. Their material was much more mellow and their shows wouldn't have been as energetic as they were just a few years earlier. If you watch live performances of the Commodores before 1979, their performances were absolutely fire and they were much more a Funk band. Lionel Richie went solo after all the success they were having from the more mellow Pop stuff he wrote after the Funk period. That's the version of the Commodores the Wailers opened for...already on the decline.

Two great artists for sure… A lot of Bob Marley‘s popularity can simply be traced to the popularity of cannabis… And his association with it. When you have a cocktail mix of drugs, money, youth etc. you’re definitely going to get a hangover. I’m giving sly and the family stone the win musically, but only by the slimmest of margins. And I think everybody can agree that we wish we were at the show😊
@myyootube26 сағат бұрын
I don't agree that a lot of Marley's popularity can be traced to the popularity of of Cannabis. Grass is integral to that culture (still at this point), but as a non cannabis user I think all the music stands on its own. I do think a lot of the popularity of Rastafarianism can be traced to it's having cannabis as a sacrament. In this case I think the flashy funk band was flying too high, and the rock steady crew was putting down deep roots. Roots are what lasts for the win.

Sly Stone was always known as a drug user, who would show up hours late to a show. The Wailers signed up for a 30 show tour. After 4 shows, Sly fired them from the tour. Sly didn't like being shown up by the opening act!

It's difficult to have two geniuses on tour with each other. From what I've experienced, this is normal behavior. I've found that the best approach is to have a "Sit down" with each other, a day before hitting the stage. Break the tension. The Wailers were a 70s super group. By '74 Sly & Family Stone had burned out.

I remember seeing him on the 1990 Sting poster and heard couple of his music over a five years duration, but after that his appearance and music declined and I never heard of him again until just now at a low and vibrational moment concerning his death. That's always a heavy one... Rise In Power to a brother I've never met!
