Bull Connor was part of the southern Democrat party aka the dixiecrats. Goes to show how much you know about history. Connor hated the Republicians since most registered black voters were Republicans including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. So stop trying to rewrite history and do more research you revisionist historian.

No it's not. Look at where we're at right now. The US is in a bad state, so making it great again doesn't mean going back to these times. Also, notice how he said white friends helped him out. The country as a whole needs to unite, but "they" don't want that.

You probably have never even been to Alabama. It's not anywhere like that here today, and likely worse in many northern states.

I watched Reggie Jackson play in the he 80's in Baltimore. The Man could play; swing on both sides of the plate. Never saw Anything like that. He was a big man; a Home Run Slugger! None of that matters compared to what HE just shared! A great American; just like Willie Mayes! Americans. Shameful the way they were treated.

I went to the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame induction dinner in 1976. Willie Mays was selected for induction. He didn't tell anybody, but he never got on the plane to come be honored by his home state. Later complained that he had never been offered a ticker tape parade, which they later gave him. I was a kid then, but because of that no show I would never have asked for his autograph when I got older. Ppl were trying to do right and he showed his rear end. Sorry he had a bad experience, but things improved a lot before the 1970's were done, but Alabama gets slandered even today for the actions of a few those years ago.

Again, if Reggie were young and playing in Bham, he wouldn't experience those insults. Things have changed, Bull Conner is dead, and he should celebrate that things are better rather than dredge up the way things were 60 years ago. It does no good to talk about how things WERE when they are no longer like that.

@@imup4287 I'm not being disrespectful to those little girls or their families. The perpetrators are likely in eternal damnation by now, and the children are with Jesus. I simply feel that having that forum in Birmingham was to celebrate the gifts of black ballplayers, not to regurgitate a heated racial environment that is long past.

Could’ve done without him slinging the “N” word. Reggie! We all know about Civil Rights. Kids are watching the show. Talking about coming back to Birmingham like it’s still as it was in the 50’s and 60’s. He literally shit on Birmingham on live tv. The older ball players didn’t sling the “N” word back and forth on tv for attention and clout. Sorry it wasn’t your day Reggie. It belongs to Willie Mays.
