It's par for the course. Systemic racism has only moved it's focus. Black men have led investment teams as the highest bidders for multiple major network tv stations as well. Keeping black men out of ownership stake in industry is a big part of the game. Michael Jackson was potentially killed for maneuvering majority ownership at Sony music America.

this is crazy and sad. To prevent one of baseball's greatest players from owning the team he helped create a dynasty with is strange. MLB wants diversity on the field not at the ownership level and it is sad. If baseball doesn't think Reggie Jackson is better for baseball and the A's than John Fisher then baseball (corporate baseball) is a perfect example of systemic racism. I hope Reggie doesn't stop talking about this to force baseball to deal with it.

And in addition to Reggie Jackson, I read another article that Joe Lacob tried to buy the A's back in 2005 but was also rejected. So Lacob bought the Warriors instead and helped turn them into champions. From that article, and what Reggie Jackson said in another interview, the reason why they were turned down was because John Fisher's partner, Lewis Wolff, was an old fraternity buddy of Bud Selig's. Fast forward to 2016, Wolff sold his 10% share of the A's to Fisher.

The A's have had the same success as the Raiders. The Las Vegas folks have voted for the money to build so it's over for Oakland. Warriors moved out, Raiders moved out, coming soon .... The A's will too. Niners, Giants and Warriors are now San Francisco teams. A's and Raiders will be Las Vegas. The A's screwed the Raiders and Oakland out of a rebuilt nice stadium so the A's deserve all they caused ...... Ask Max Muncy about it.

@@ncarls123 Monty Moore used to say “Reggie hit another tater!!” He hit a surprising number of opposite field homers. I saw one game at the Coliseum where he hit one out to left into the old wooden bleachers and one rocket that barely cleared the fence height and hit the concrete in the right field corner, bouncing way back onto the field. Plus Captain Sal hit one out to left that day too. I loved the Coliseum.

one side of the story In his Schott’s 2022 book “Long Schott”, he wrote: “Reggie Jackson had a group that he said wanted to buy the team, with Brian Shapiro and other investors, and said they were willing to pay $25 million more than what the Fishers were offering. But by the time Reggie contacted me, we had the deal in place. It would have been great and historic for Reggie to be part of the ownership group, as the first African American owner. I had a good relationship with Reggie, having retired his No. 9 a year earlier. But I had to commit to the deal with the Fishers and baseball and couldn’t chase the last dollar.”

Wouldn't it?" I find it just sad that Selig had the A's sold to Fisher for less because he was buddy buddy with Wolff, yet they weren't buddy buddy enough to overturn the territorial rights to SJ. Hard to take him serious , calls racism on everything. Loved him as a player though. Also just cuz u wanna buy a team doesn’t mean they will sell, most potential buyers get turned down.

Why is the MLB so committed to not having the smaller market teams flourish and grow? It's stifling the growth of the game and the old ones in charge are too filled up with nostalgia. If Mario Lemieux was majority owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins then Jackson should have been given the opportunity.

I remember growing up as a kid , in the early 1970's, and looking forward to every summer, when all of us kids would go to the Oakland Coliseum to watch Reggie and the A's play, even before their first World Championship. Reggie's story is a reminder of what America truly is. It does not matter what you have done for Baseball and all of sports. Baseball is racist to its core , when it comes to Black Americans. I noticed it by the time I was about 15 years old, then as a fan of Baseball. I have not been a fan of it since about 1989. Never watched the sport again, to this day over 30 years.

There is racism in this game and the business side of it. In my view bug ceiling was a f****** moron anyway. To disallow Reggie Jackson to have a minority stake in the Oakland A's is outrageous and it's a slap in the face. And it show how rascim is alive and well in baseball

Just because everyone is crying racism doesn't make it right or not stupid. There are several comments explaining the bud selig john fischer connection. It is croneyism and has nothing to do with race. A white man could've offered 50 million more than what Jackson would've offered and he still would've given it to his pal.

Reggie has been ahead of the curve in so many areas. His early push for SGC grading transitioned the industry. I don't like what that has become over time, but it was Reggie that got out in front of it. That is just a tiny example where we see his skills and insight transcending the field. A shame we still have so much collusion

Signed by the Kansas City A's, became a star with the Oakland A's and locked out by men with no conscience. if Reggie had been sold the team he would have worked out something with the city of Oakland. John Fisher has no shame.

My best friend was a born and raised Oakland As fan. After 30 years of the up’s and downs. Eventually seeing their demise due to a greedy and bad owner that didn’t want to put resources into the team he now hates baseball and has a deep hate for the Oakland As that have caused him so much emotional pain. I’m starting to understand it and the faster they move out of Oakland the better

Mr Jackson told us his side very eloquently, very well said in all his points. I wish we could hear why MLB chose not to accept, what do they know that has not been said, so we can honestly judge his comments. Otherwise, I would have to say, Mr Jackson is correct in his assumptions.
