I'm 45 and I discovered Reggie Watts on TED years after he started and I think he's totally awesome. My dad is almost 70, and he knows who Reggie Watts is from Conan, and he thinks he's just groovy, especially for a mainstream performer. No real point to this post… just thought I'd piss off the hipsters.
@lackingcreativity010 жыл бұрын
How the fuck is reggie watts mainstream?? I dont know anyone who knows of him which is sad because he deserves to be better known. He'll keep on keepin it real.

Man....he is such a creative fucking genius. That riff that he loops at 3:10 is so creative. It's super simple...but carries such a complex and specific mood/vibe/aesthetic in my mind. It's like Egyptian dub house music...or something.

I'm as big a fan as they come, but at 17:30, Reggie was on the edge of something huge that he backed off of around a minute later...back to the 808 beat boxing and schtick. Love everything he does - a seminal genius. But just goes to show that even the best of us back away from the unknown at times - revert to that which is comfortable -because the risk might be too great. The chasm too wide or the energy required just too much.

+TommyLikeTom If you see Andy Kaufman's HBO special (part 2) you'll see a perfect comedy & music routine. And you can see him trolling the audience with a made up language aswell. There's a lot of that in what Reggie Watts does. I don't think Reggie Watts invented anything, but his act is hilarious and I love it and him (I guess he received the Andy Kaufman prize for a reason).
