I think the reason people can't wrap their head around that is the years of shitty, insult humor which masquerades as "parody" on this site, like the Key of Awesome or Brock Baker.
@reynoldadamson989210 жыл бұрын
To parody something correctly, you must understand it. And he's done his research! Fucking hilarious!
@Naitsirk80810 жыл бұрын
Not sure about that to be honest. I was hoping to here the Wagner Tristan chord from 'Tristan and Isolde' referenced here, as musically quoted in Paul Lanskey's 'mild und leise' (1973 recording) along with a 6/4 measure like the Radiohead song 'Idiotech' ... instead we have a piss take of Thom Yorke. I guess I did a little too much research, right?
@Naitsirk80810 жыл бұрын
That said... Reggie Watts rocks! haha
@reynoldadamson989210 жыл бұрын
Kristian Sharpe Yes, that research is a bit excessive for a casual parody of Idioteque. But I'd say this parody applies to other Radiohead songs, such as 15 Step, In Limbo, and some tracks from Amnesiac. Of course, if he had sampled Paul Lanksey's track just as Radiohead did it, it would be considered a cover, as well as 6/4 as well.

I get the hilarity in this performance,, but it's easy for some to take offense I belive.,, me slightly included cuz the simple truth is, how many vocalists have u ever heard that do any radio head song actually have the York sound?? No one can do him accurate. . Example,, Fake plastic trees.. who the fk can sing fake plastic trees with the passion and gut wrenching purity that he performs.. it's unmatched.. it is slightly funny.. @Bitteulze10 жыл бұрын
Stephen Blake He wasn't trying to be mocking either. Actually, he wasn't "trying" anything... He was just DOING. THAT's part of what makes Reggie Watts so great : SPONTANEITY. I don't think there's any "intentions" per se in his stage performances. Who cares for intentions when it comes to a Reggie Watts performance anyway ? He just does his thing with the abilities and references he has in him at the moment he does it. If he wants to sing like Thom Yorke, that's just how it comes out, I don't think there's any filter whatsoever or questions like "will people think that I'm being derisive ?" He just does his thing. End of the story. If it makes us laugh, fine, if it doesn't, fine too. I just believe in the benevolent nature of this guy... I don't think anything really nasty or mocking can come out of a Reggie Watts performance.

FIrst few seconds: Who the fuck does this guy think he is poking fun at my Radiohead like that? (not laughing)....A few seconds later: This guy is pretty spot on tho at poking fun at my Radiohead (chuckles)....By the time he's making fun of Thom Yorke's singing: (cracking the fuck up)

***** Yes, I did name the band, because at first, they went with the name 'On A Friday', I didn't like that band name, so I changed it to 'Radiohead', I named them after a Talking Heads song. Thank you...P.S. Don't be jealous.

Love it, sincerely a true Radiohead fan. Radiohead is deep music - the superficial aspects of the music matters so little that it's often great comedy material. Reggie is the right man to do a parody like this, and to get it just right!

This is one of the best things I've ever seen! In a way it proves how unique Radiohead's sound it, because it's unmistakably a parody of them... but it's still funny as hell and right on the button!
