This song is about a friend of Regina's from university who died of cancer last year. Both their birthdays are in February, By a ridiculous coincidence she used to work with my friend Ruth, so for me to hear a woman I've adored since I was 15 go through the same grief I saw one of my best friends go through is ridiculously moving. This song makes me cry so very much. Even though I really don't get what's going on with Regina's music lately, I feel closer to her than I ever have before.

I used to love this song so much, but my grandmother has been in the hospital since January with COVID pneumonia and had to go on a ventilator a week and a half ago. She won’t wake up, so we’re taking her off the ventilator tomorrow to let her pass away peacefully, February 21st 2021. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to listen to this song again without getting choked up.

This song was a true surprise to me when I listened to her entire album because I could relate to it. I replace the name Jessica with Brandy Jean. She was a dear friend of mine who died this past January from a heart condition she had. She went into a coma and we were all praying she would survive. When I heard this song, it scared me how much the lyrics connected to what happened. When I hear it I get sad but also happy that Brandy is forever in my thoughts and memories.

I'm not sure if Regina has stated this herself but I have read from many sources that the song could be about her friend who passed away. They share the same birthday month. That would explain why she sings here: "It's February again, we must get older, so please wake up." I always think about this explanation as I listen to the song and it's just simply the most beautiful song I've ever heard. Remember though, that this is just one possible explanation - what I think is best in Regina's music, is that you can always come up with your own unique explanations to every song, they are purely magical!

It amazes me when music is made from such a sad spot; that people can rise from the low feelings that the world leaves us with, and manage to make lovely tunes that almost make you feel better about losing someone special.
