Never heard of her until she was on Jimmy Fallon recently. Her performance of this song was chilling. I watched it a few times a day until hulu took it down. Great live performance. Sometimes Jimmy comes out and shakes the bands hand but with Regina he yelled "Yeah!!" when it was over and shook her hand while saying, "Thank you thank you thank you" She knocked it out of the park with that performance. "And the future is here. It's bright. It's NOW." The way she sang it. Tears formed. I love her.

Completely agree. This could go down as one of her best. The way she sings the chorus is quite machine-like, and it's infectious.

I believe this song really comments on the life that most of us (including myself) leads. For example, on the bus today, more than half of the people riding were listening to their iPods, playing with their phones which are connected to the internet. Everywhere we go- we are connected. "I collect my moments/ into a correspondence/ with a mightier power/ who just lacks my perspectives/ and who lacks my organics" sounds like a blog too me.

Which I think gives the song an addictive quality being, you want the song to end a resolved way and it does, so we continuously listen to the song searching for resolution that can't be found.

I'd say this is my favorite, but then I'd hear another song by her and have to take it back. Regina is just so awesome. Although I got a little scared while listening to this song. The machine like sounds sounded a little like my door trying to be opened and I'm listening to this in the middle of the night. So I got a little creeped out after that, but it's most definately worth it for this wonderful music.

I like the fact that Regina's different albums are so varied and yet the songs inside are always specifically themed. While I find it hard to appreciate all her music (Im only human and Ive got tastes), I can certainly appreciate that she goes out there and experiments. She is certainly unique :P Go Regina!

This song actually has a deep meaning in it. Read if you want, I'll try to make it as short as I can... Song Meaning: There is a girl who was captured by the military/government. They are put in a machine to work for the government/military and she is "blessed". She cries in agony everyday and she wishes to be released. She is supposedly given super human powers and wisdom. She is slowly dying inside the machine and wants to break free. (This is not 100% true, I just thought of this after listening to this song a lot.)

@podperson13 "Sept" is pretty much the prefix for "seven." Being "double-jointed" means that you can bend your joint in two different directions, such as bending your arm close to you and then bending it on the same elbow joint in the other direction. No one is double-jointed by the way, but since this is referring to a machine it means the machine can bend a joint in seven different directions--did that make sense?
@CarltonGauss14 жыл бұрын
DrAldobaglio: I listened to both of their first 30 seconds and they're not similar at all. "The Flowers" and "Us" on the other hand, have almost identical music. "the flowers" is all piano, while "us" is piano+violin and it's a bit more flowery, but the music is pretty much the same. Even they start to diverge at about 49 seconds though. And it doesn't matter because the singing is very different.
@natalieeburley14 жыл бұрын
@podperson13 it is sept. you can hear her articulate the t. and it makes sense if shes mechanical and its her hands where there are many joints to begin with

While many compare this song to Après Moi, it's a lot more like Ezra Pound in its snarky criticism and tone. Personally, this song makes up for a lot of songs that I found lyrically and melodically weak on the album, because it brings back a level of eccentricity that isn't as present on Far as it is on all her other albums. With that said, I feel that comments on her becoming more 'mainstream' are completely valid. But it is clearly what she wants, and her music is still strong, so fine.
