For me, this song is simply about us humans being subjects to society, feeling lost throughout our lives. This song celebrates that sense of confusion and how everything turns our into this story that the people in the future can look up to as something nostalgic but they can never fully understand and end up staring at us with a sense of familiarity...

I think the name is quite telling. "Us", to me, stands for "US", which is the first letters in "USA" and "USSR". Both have been described as dens of thieves by the other, and both of whose ideologies were considered contagious. They were both, in their times, seen as newfangled and blamed for almost everything ("They'll say it's all our fault"). The statue reference refers to both the statue of liberty and the edification, even deification, of the leaders of the Soviet Union. So I think she's singing about both the nation she was born in and the nation she chose.

So creative! Must have taken so long to film Is 2:03 a Soviet Kitsch reference?? If so, how did I miss that for years??

This song captures, almost completely that feeling of simple, expansive feeling when you fall in love, with your S.O. with your friends, with all the animals on our planet, with the world and the universe. And its contagious; how can I not share that transcendent love and compassion for every living being when I feel it, I know it so well? This is more than romantic relationships; this is the romance of being alive, the romantic notion of existing here, now, together.

Gracias ❤️

I can't believe I let life catch me up so much that I forgot all about how beautiful you are and how touching your music has been for a big chunk of my life. I love you. Thank you.

+thedreamwriter96 what about if you tell her your feelings?

she knows about that. she was in love with me for seven years and I knew it but I didn´t want her but now, we´re both on opposite sides. I love her and she is "cured". If u know what I mean.

I first heard of Regina Spektor on CBS Sunday Morning 12 years ago and went looking for her music videos online. I fell in love with her voice and talent, bought her CD "Soviet Kitch" and have enjoyed her music ever since. She has her own style, and is beautiful too.
