Why Should White Guys Have All the Fun?: How Reginald Lewis Created a Billion-Dollar Business Empire www.amazon.com/Should-White-Guys-Have-Billion-Dollar/dp/1574780360
@kwab075 жыл бұрын
He was the FIRST man, African American, or White to do the first 1 BILLION dollar deal on Wall Street EVER!! Nowadays, they are common, but in 1982 prior to his Beatrice deal, there was no deal like that! When people speak about the deal, they say he was the first African American to do a deal of that size, insinuating that someone else did a deal like that. NO ONE EVER did a deal of that magnitude prior to Reginald Lewis!!

There seriously needs to be more exposure of this man. I believe he isn’t spoken about much because his legacy would be frighteningly inspiring to a lot of black people. Also, how he went about business via acquisitions is a lot more challenging and requires connections and corporate etiquette, which most of us black people are ignorant to. His path was very financially rewarding, but not easy. This was a good man.

I just listened to the free audiobook here. You can imagine what he would have accomplished if he was still alive today. His dealmaking prowess was fantastic and a masterclass in never allowing society to define you but to constantly push yourself. One thing I learnt here is that exactly how you define yourself is how society will accept you. Define yourself as a billionaire and society accepts you as that; define yourself as disadvantaged and society accepts you as that. You have the power.

The book, "Why Should White Guys Have All The Fun", was something unlike anything I had ever read! it was 97 at a booksale at the USAG Schinnen Army Base, located in Schinnen, NETHERLANDS, that I came across it. That book literally changed my life! Its too bad that the then owner of Ebony & Jet Magazines was jealous of Lewis becoming the 1st Black Business Owner to reach that level of financial success and choose not to do stories on Lewis until well after Lewis has passed away from cancer. Imagine if more folk had had access to Lewis's Story early on while he was still alive - just imagine how that would have changed business as we know it now!!!
@ShabazzStone5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely Rob! I don't know how true it is, but I have read from various accounts that Mr. Lewis was very interested in putting together the same kind of ("leveraged buyout" type) a deal he used to acquire TLC Beatrice, to purchase Paramount Studios, which would have further changed the landscape in sculpting a more positive perception and controlling our narrative, which would have been a powerful thing.

I read his book in high school and it changed my life for the better too. Yeah, I was aware of his rivalry with John Johnson too. I hate that two top money earning brothas were clashing like that, but they blazed a trail for everyone to learn from.
@robinlacue34315 жыл бұрын
@@RamonExtraordinaire1 John Johnson didn't run any stories on him because he wasn't married to an African American woman that was a touchy subject back then. I think if he would of ran an cover on Reginald, it might have hurt because he would of got a lot flack from the African American community it was a very touchy subject back then. that's one of the reasons; probably the main. reason.
@RamonExtraordinaire15 жыл бұрын
@@robinlacue3431 But I don't understand why who he was married to would be that controversial that he wouldn't deserve any press coverage of his achievements. This was the 1980s, not the 1950s. I think that Quincy Jones had an interracial marriage at the time, and still have press coverage in Johnson publications for his musical achievements.
