You are so right in reading Kyla. She was indeed nervous. At that time, Regine was still at the peak, both career-wise and vocally. Kyla was one of the new generation of divas of that time like what Mori and Katrina is now. It’s both terrifying and gratifying to sing with Regine for any artist. Even Brian McKnight was blown away when he finally sang with Regine. He said in an interview that he listened to Regine’s cd’s so he knew that she could sing, but then he said he was shocked with the power of her voice when he actually sang with her live. Yup, the Queen 👑

Oh, the reason why Kyla was probably nervous is because it was her very first production number as part of the now-defunct Sunday noontime show. That was in the early 2000s when she was rising to prominence as a new artist in the country.

I think what makes Regine shine in every performance is she stays true to her style. Even with Mariah songs, you’ll never hear her doing Mariah. She always does songs with her own sound. Sometimes it may sound similar to Mariah but that’s just people’s imagination. And the downfall of many other great singers in the Philippines is trying to copy too much of the singer they emulate. Regine, even when covering Jennifer Holliday or a Houston song, still maintains her own sound.

Kyla was new and nervous as Regine is her idol. Up to now Kyla idolizes Mimi and Regine. Do you know Regine sang Vision of love in 1990 to launch the single? Back in the day recording companies in the Philippines assign local singers to promote foreign singers. Regine was assigned to launch Vision of Love in the Philippines

Yes. I think Kyla was obviously nervous. She has always mastered runs and riffs and the breathy mellow way of singing. She also has a wide vocal range though her higher registers in chest or chesty mix are a bit forced, unpleasant and non-resonant. Regine on the other hand can do runs and riffs well yet her vocal prowess stands out in her higher registers.
