Another difference in SMW is that if you clear all 96 exits in the Japanese version, the file will just display the number 96 (and if you clear additional exits using glitches, the counter can go even higher), but in the US version it displays a 96 with a star next to it, and the counter can't go any higher than 96.

the word "GALAXY" was copyrighted by 4 other companies and the courts determined "super mario galaxy" to be copyright infringement, leading to the name "super mario wii" with the subtitle "galaxy adventure"

which leads to many questions about why they were ever allowed to copyright an already-existing word.

@@wiintendo9609 it's not that they copyrighted the word by itself, but there were multiple items/services with the word and since they were all electronic related, they determined it as infringement. which is still dumb lol

One regional difference in Super Mario Kart is in the Japanese version, Peach and Bowser's winning animations have them drinking the bottle of champaign and getting drunk in the process. This was seen as potentially harmful to a younger audience in the western countries, so in the western releases it was changed to Peach and Bowser simply hold their bottles as opposed to drinking them.

8:35 also the Japanese Version of Super Mario Sunshine actually has less fruit in Delfino Plaza than in the NTSC version, making the game load faster than in north America

In the original Japanese version, Mario actually says "Here we go!" when throwing Bowser. It's the Shindou (Rumble) version that went with "Bye bye!". The reason why the Shindou version didn't stick with "So long, King Bowser!" was because that's not his name in Japan. Also fun fact, they reused the Shindou voice clip for the DS remake. Speaking of said remake; for unknown reasons, they went back to the Japanese painting for Jolly Roger Bay.

The name "Galaxy" in Korean sounds similar to a vulgar term, so Nintendo decided to rename the game to avoid any potential offense or confusion.

The weirdest thing in Super Mario Sunshine is that there are other words in the german than in the italian version even tho a few words in the german version are italian as well. So in the german version if you collect a shine there's "Bravissimo" which doesn't exist in german but is an italian word. In the italian version tho if you collect a shine the words "Splendido" appears. I have no idea why they've done this diffrently if it's the same language both times and it's very weird if you ask me. The words for losing a live and a few other things are diffrent as well even tho the german version also uses italian words there.

It’s a complete myth that Japan thought Americans needed easier games. Some versions of games got more difficult when they came to America. Also the reason you can eat the dolphins in the Japanese version, but not in the North American one is in Japan eating dolphins is not seen as taboo as it is in other places.

For a non political show it's a bit heavy to say "their hate for the west runs deep" when it's probably just that no foreign words at all can be published
@TundieRice

Maybe a bit heavy, I suppose, but let’s not pretend that China doesn’t have much more of an aversion to anything Western than other Asian countries (especially Japan, considering Japan uses English all the time, including in the Japanese versions of these very games.)

Also, in the Korean version of Super Mario 64 DS, if you go to the castle's roof you will see a yellow block that it will give you 1Ups if you hit it, and it is infinite. Maybe is a reference to the original game, were you get 100 1Ups when you talk to Yoshi?
