As such, the Islamic Development Bank Group has been committed to improving and re-defining transport infrastructure in its 57 member countries.
In Senegal, West Africa, growing urbanization is creating huge challenges for the country's capital, Dakar. The city of 3 million offers nearly 85 percent of nationwide job opportunities, prompting an influx of around 100,000 new residents each year. To help alleviate this population pressure, IsDB has contributed US$ 337 million to the development of West Africa’s first fast train railway network. The first phase of the Dakar to Blaise Diagne International Airport regional express train project - travels 36 kilometers from Dakar to the town of Diamniadio and began operation in December 2021.
