what happened to the copy Uthman left in or sent to Medina? Is there any track record of it? eg someone saying it was there and caught fire or something. Where was it kept? In a mosque or in a government building? It seems to me there must have been a specific agency/protocol for protecting these manuscripts. Given the respect Muslims always have had for the Quran mushaf itself, I find it hard to imagine there is no track record of what happened to these manuscripts.

Also is there any record or details about the physical attributes of these manuscripts eg weight, dimensions etc. I imagine if these were written on animal skins each would have weighed 10-100kg and really voluminous.

This program did not reach us intact. It started abruptly and at a later stage voice disappeared completely. I don't know which paper of Sidky you're referring to Please upload again. Thanks.

That the Meccan codex is hybrid means that it is younger than the others - which supports Mecca emerging later on the Islamic scene. It would be interesting to trace the emergence of Mecca as a center of Islamic worship.

*Uthman's Quran editing team which included a no. of illiterates* (!) 😂 ] *did a pretty bad job* ! *We still have, after 1400 years, up to seven slightly versions floating around, while the Hafs version is the most popular, followed by Warsh. But we have Qaluun, Duuri, Khallad etc etc* . And , more interestingly, *the 10th century bibliographer & bookseller, Ibn Nadiim al-Baghdadi, said that in cities like Kufah and Basrah, the standard Quran was that of Abdullah ibn Mas'uud, NOT Uthmanic* !

I think you are confused. Warsh etc are modes of recitation (of the traditional 10 Qiraat) not different Quranic Kitab rasm. The diacritical marks didn't exist yet. You could still transliterate regional differences with certain letters in the Arabic language. For instance ع or و can still act like vowels without diacritical marks.

It seems you are an ignorant on the subject Almost every academic scholar including Dr Hythem and Dr Marijn say that the Uthmanic Rasm has been preserved It seems you are the one who did a bad job at getting an education

@@1001011011010you are correct! it's pretty funny seeing them point out warsh and all of the modes of recitation because we know they mean the same thing
