Duels came out when I was in hospital with COVID (bad -- respirator, whole thing, first wave). Your videos on it were some of the first things that I could focus on while I was so sick and playing it finally made me temporarily forget my pain. This is very sad. I know it's just a game, but it still feels bad. Heavy. What a waste of potential.

So practically speaking it’s probably because mercenaries cards are wholly unique and separate. You can just drop it like a rock and never touch it again, but duels uses traditional cards, so you CANT leave it untouched, the card pool will keep changing and potentially breaking or becoming massively unbalanced and they don’t want to deal with the community complaints regarding that

That's three modes down at this point. Duels was nice as long form content to just sit back and watch, there was so much potential for Duels especially when they started adding heroes from other adventures. By far my favorite mode out of any. Didn't finish implementing the rest of the Witchwood Heroes, would have loved to see Tess, Shaw, and especially Toki in the spotlight again. I'm kind of in the Roffle boat now where if standard is meh, wild is filled with bots, and battlegrounds is a mess. Arena maybe? Who knows.

I've been playing since beta. It hurt to see mercs die cuz i was starting to enjoy it again. Now it's duels... I like duels but i was waiting for them to add more content to it, then play it again. At least they kept mercs around but they're deleting Duels entirely and i don't get that, and that's not fair to content creators like Roffle who relies on Duels

Duels is literally the only game mode i played when opening hearthstone. Without duels i dont think ill be as interested to even open the app itself.. i dont understand why they dont leave the game playable like how they did with mercenaries :(

As a long time on and off player duels was something that brought me back and got me interested for a long time. Personally I always felt they killed it when they changed the bucket formulation and made it expansion based. Really killed the dungeon run power fantasy against other players feeling.

Exactly! That's why it rotates every week. The problem with a broken meta is not that it's broken, it's that it lasts and gets boring. I like broken decks, I like countering broken decks. The idea is to make it into a deck-building mode not to make it another version of Standard and Wild. The reason it fails now is that it is a strictly worse version of both those modes. The randomness add a layer of surprise and novelty. New synergies with old unplayable cards will emerge and the disappear just as quickly. @@M31Andromeda

honestly none of their decisions make sense anymore, they are just releasing things on the go for the sake of content without thinking in the long run, i think twist had potential to be fun cause i really wanted to play old metas cause standard is dogshit with the powercreep and decisions dont matter anymore but theyve put 0 effort into it, like its not even hard to make rotations every month i really dont understand why drop the mode and do nothing. they are releasing more and more op cards everyday just to be `` interesting`` and doing skins and whatever. Duels was the only version of "normal" Hearthstone I enjoyed playing, and with this I doubt I'll invest any time in the game outside battlegrounds. It stings that their reasoning is to "shift resources" when duels was getting next to no resources at all. It feels disingenuous when there is no content for over a year and yet thats taking too many resources?

For me the biggest problem with duels was the lack of "Bob's tavern" (From the single player deck builder adventures) like encounters. They could've done stuff with Battlegrounds cards or something too.

I'm always glad you talk about your financial interest in making some of these decisions since it is your job, like Marvel Snap doing better for you and Hearthstone only being worth it during new expansions. Sometimes it seems like creators get a lot of flak for the "thing" they're known for if they move away from it. So making it very clear to us, your viewers, is very nice to see and make sure it keeps you sane. I also recently started watching Roffle again because of the duels, since even though I haven't played Hearthstone in a long time, his videos were a lot of fun and good, long-form background watching. Its sad to see this happen, but I plan on sticking around to see what he comes up with next. Wish the best to you and all the creators making Duels content! ♥♥♥

I held off watching this because I thought it would be more negative (sorry for thinking that) Glad you made this, i'm a big Roffle Fan he pretty much was one of two streamers who got me back into the game 2019. I love Roffle's content and his duels streams replaced what you had done before that I really enjoyed with Duels. I'm glad you've fallen back with snap so you can be that snap streamer/youtuber for me. I"m sad to see this mode go but the dropped ball(s) out of the gate have really sucked the life out of formats that in my opinion had been pretty good. Sadly we're probably going to be down to 4 modes, (Arena, Standard, Wild & BG). I wish the deck builder had been a success. I am both gutted and dismayed. I only play Hearthstone because of Duels, I buy the packs at every expansion just to play Duels and haven't played standard, or any other mode for years now. Surely Blizzard knows there are players like me that buy packs to play Duels and not standard. I feel cheated out of my commitment and cheated out of my money as I'll never get enjoyment from the game again

Hey Regis, First of all I am happy for you that your Marvel Snap Content is doing well and me personal I love your Content and take many inspiration by that. But I am very sad that you had less time for duels and hearthstone in general because I lost the fun and excitement for duels as well very fast because I was very annoyed that it was so hard to have fun and success with off meta decks without highrolls and the fact that the duels meta was very cemented ultra fast and the fact that blizzard most of the time just did nerfs most of the time was a huge point I turned from duels and just focused on standard, wild and even twist because I love these modes

Very sad. I literally came back to duels a few weeks back after leaving HS to only playing Snap. Snap to me was the perfect 'duels', fast games and implementation of 'treasures' in 'locations'. Been losing interest in Snap lately as it's been since Loki that any fun 'shenanigans' cards have been added, so went back to duels to see if I'd like it again. And I'm having such a blast, purely because I missed all expansions. Discovering them through playing in duels has been great. I hope they turn arena in a duels/snap game mode somehow, otherwise it's back to uninstall for me 😢

I really enjoyed your Duels videos & I'm quite sad that the mode is getting axed. I spent countless hours watching Duels runs while playing Standard/Wild/Battlegrounds. Even if I didn't play Duels very often it still provided me with a lot of entertainment via streams & most importantly it kept me engaged with the game (and more likely to keep spending). I think Blizzard has underestimated the amount of players like me who indirectly relied on Duels to maintain their interest in the game.

The big question in my mind is just how much life Hearthstone as a whole has left in it. I don't think they're gonna close the game entirely anytime soon, but Hearthstone is nearly a decade old. The cracks in the underlying engine and complexity of card interactions, especially in eternal formats, have been spreading for quite some time. Perhaps there will be a Hearthstone 2 or something, but it can't last forever.

Duels was the only remaining mode i could even bothered to play anymore. •Mercs is dead •Arena was never my thing cus of it being entirely rng what card you were offered •wild requires too much commitment to own every expansion and also seems to be broken 99% of the time •classic was deleted •twist was dead on arrival •standard has become extremely pay2win with how much power creep there is. If you dont buy the new expansion you fall behind massively. For the 1st time in 5 years I didnt pre order the last expansion and I have never felt more ostracised from the community and the game. Personally i felt vindicated with my decision almost immediately when within 24hrs the warlock snake literally took the entire game hostage. That was the moment I realised how much of a money sink this game has become and decided I will not be spending money on the game going forward. When people like me are willing to spend $150 on an expansion, I expect a working product in return. Not the entire game being dominated by 1 or 2 cards for 2 weeks until the devs can be bothered to fix it Duels was the only mode I could just boot up, spend 150 gold, create some wacky deck, get some insane treasures and that carry me to 5-6 wins. Then after spending 2-3 hours with a duels deck i get a couple packs, dust, gold etc back on my initial 150 gold investment. It felt unique. It felt rewarding. It felt unbalanced but when everything is unbalanced that is fun. Unlike standard where its always 1 or 2 things that are unbalanced and they warp the game around them. Bye hearthstone I guess. Last mode I actually cared about gone. After Already dipping out on spending money on this game , there is literally NOTHING left for me here anymore

They should do a commander style mode. Commander is one of the main things keeping MTG alive. Increase player health to 50+ by default, increase the amount of cards in deck to like 60 or more. They can "Hearthstone it up" to make it match hearthstone a bit more, but I imagine that would be hugely successful.

I dont know if they need a mode that apes commander, duels felt lile it really fit the commamder game feel where you have one guaranteed build around, and you kept getting weird cards you never see. Commander has the singleton restriction, but duels makes you draft worse cards, but what you do with those cards is interesting and fun.

RIP duels. It was a fantastic game mode, and i personally loved the single player treasure runs ala Dalaran. This really saddens me, it really broke up the monotony of traditional HS, and it made me invest into wild cards, since I'm a new-ish player (started in Sunken City). I'm definitely going to be playing less Hearthstone when this gets dropped.

I LOVE duels, i play like 4-5 runs a week, for me it is the dreamed dungeon runs but with multiplayer and actual rewards for playing it and getting good, yes it was unfair at times, yes it was random, but that was the fun thing about it, i loved having absolute crazy combos and also loved trying silly 0/3 runs, it was my favorite mode and with this i'm scared to say i may play a lot less Hearthstone :(

I use Duels as my primary means to do the daily (and to some degree weekly) quests. Most weeks it should be possible to use Tavern Brawls instead, else i will have to use Twist/Wild for those.

Duels is the only mode I play nowadays other than when a BG meta really speaks to me sometimes. It’s so easy to be f2p with how your starting deck is 15 card singleton. And it combines the things I enjoy the most which is drafting but also high powered zany shenanigans (which most heavy arena players hate). It was literally the ideal form of Hearthstone for me. If monetization was an issue I’d totally be fine if they removed Casual Duels honestly even though I play it more. I’d still gladly pay for the entry honestly. Sad day

Duels was never something that interested me, but I enjoyed watching the content and see how much others enjoyed it. For me, it wasn't approachable as a casual player. Once I felt my collection gave me a chance to compete I was too far behind - again, being casual kept me from understanding best heroes and builds, what treasures to shoot for, etc. It just wasn't worth my investment to get 2-3 wins and dip out. I understand those are all 'me' problems, but I have to imagine others who played similarly to me had a similar experience. Either way, hate to see something so many people enjoy get treated this way.

The problem I’m sure is that there was no monetization besides paying for a heroic run. It’s not worth sinking resources into the game mode, but honestly, I treated it as an alternate ranked mode, playing either depending on my mood. I would play multiple runs a day depending on my success, and love trying to make interesting decks work. Sad news, I wish they could have done something different to fix the issues.

Hearthstone killed it's most interesting mode, I loved playing it and watching you and Roffle play it. It seems like the hearthstone team is really limited to only focusing on standard/wild because they have to pump out 183 cards 3 times a year, leaving no time for support on different modes. It's a sad direction that'll leave the game feeling stale for me. Gutted, bummer, stinks, time to move on with life.

I do lament this but I do think that the Hearthstone client over extended itself by adding all these play types. I say this in retrospect of course… I’ve liked all their features and options. Duels always felt like a mode that should have been there day one.

Duels content was the last thing I watched in Hearthstone, II guess I no longer have interest in Hearthstone at all and that makes me sad.

Hearthstone has been dead for me since August 2022. Duels and Battlegrounds was a big part of my play time those last several months before I threw in the towel. SNAP just feels better to me.

Lots of Wild players hit up Duels bc of all the bots (Even Shaman, Pirate Rogue, typically, but some Token Druid bots as well) and to see Duels go down, whether for monetary reasons, artwork resources, or whatever, is very sad for many players. Could be cool to see it be replaced by a PVE type game mode with similar functional deck building. Hope everyone can find another way to grind/play fun modes in HS.

Basically - sad. I enjoyed duels. I played it more than standard and enjoyed it far more than Arena. It was my preferred method to get packs in a “fun” way. I’ll probably take another long or permanent hiatus from the game altogether.

Duels is great for completing a quest like cast 12 fel or arcane or holy spells; just make some stupid deck of eight cards and complete it by three games.

People complaining about them leaving it as is don’t understand the costs that comes with it. Servers, storage, software maintenance costs a ton of money. And to do that for like 200 people who won’t spend a dollar on the game just makes literally no sense.

Duels was mainly the only think I cared about. I might do some battlegrounds but they lost me buying anymore packs.

Duels getting better would have required them ever giving a shit about their product and the enjoyment of the overall, non-standard mode playerbase. They never have. And it shows, time after a time. Blizzard doesnt give a fuck about anyone but the money.

Duels = Cool. Battlegrounds = Hot Smelly Dog Crap (if you like them, great for you). Lets keep Battlegrounds and get rid of Duels. Makes sense.

I don't get why they make a subscription model at this point. Duels was an awesome concept, a main mode for quite a few people and a great break from the "normalcy" of standard for others like me. It was like the spice that makes a good meal. Without duels, Hearthstone feels bland. Not sure I will keep participating, gonna probably focus on other games like LoL and SC2

Love duels, it's alot of fun. Certainly dissapointed it's being removed. Trouble is that you have to use your own collection to compete and if you don't have cards for the classes offered, you feel real bad if you spend gold/money to enter. Seems like they might have more success with duels if they showed you the classes before you get past the paygate.

The real trouble is they launched it and then forgot the mode existed almost entirely. They've put as much effort into the entire game mode after launch as they put into a single mini-expansion for standard.

Why is Duels removed but not Mercanaries? It seems like they keep the heavy microtransactional mode that no one plays and remove the more popular mode that doenst really need transactional pay to enjoy it.
