I am a 49 year old RN student and let me tell you- I tell everyone who will listen to come to RegisteredNurseRN and watch these videos. I am studying for an exam this week on Fluid and Electrolyte Balance and so much more, but this has helped me tremendously. I also watch the videos on the Tic Tac Toe method for ABGs and now feel confident in that. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping all of us along this journey! As soon as I can afford it, I will get me one of your shirts for 2020 and be an advertisement! LOL Again, thank you!

Two things: 1. Thank you so incredibly much for posting all these videos, they help out HUGE, and decrease the amount of anxiety that can come along with with nursing school. And 2. I took the respiratory acidosis/alkalosis quiz on the website, and I got them all right, but for some reason it is saying I selected answers that I did not select, and it marked three of them wrong. Just letting you know, in case you were unaware. Again, thank you so much for using your precious time to help instruct and inform nursing students like me.

Hello Dalton :) THANK YOU SO MUCH for your very kind words, and I'm so glad I can help make nursing school a little less stressful for you. All the stress and sleepless nights are worth it...I promise :) Also, thank you for letting me know about the quiz issue. I think I figured out the issue, and I've fixed it. If anything like that ever happens again on one of the quizzes please let me know. Thank you again for watching my videos and for taking the time to leave this comment :)

Im studying for my nclex and your videos are helping me a lot!! I'm so glad I found your channel! ABG is my least favorite topic but because of you I'm understanding it. I have a question though... Why does the ph become acidosis or alkalosis? I know it's due to retaining or expelling co2 but what exactly is happening there? My question might sound dumb but I'm just confused.. 😕 Thank you so much for posting your videos again! You're helping a lot of people! 😊
@RegisteredNurseRN8 жыл бұрын
Great question :) Keep in mind that carbon dioxide and bicarb play a huge role in messing up the blood's pH. So if CO2 is too high....the blood pH will become acidic (low) vs if the CO2 was low the blood pH will be alkalotic (high). This is mainly in your respiratory acid-base imbalances and the bicarb will "try" to correct the problems by either increasing HCO3 or decreasing it. With metabolic disorders the problem is with bicarb and if you have too much bicarb (HCO3) being retained by the kidneys this causes the blood pH to increase (alkalotic) but if the kidneys excrete too much bicarb it causes the blood pH to drop (acidic). The respiratory system will "try" to correct it by trying to alter the CO2 to compensate. I hope that helps :) Thanks for your kind words and for watching my videos :) Best wishes on NCLEX.
