As a guy in nursing school right now I can say that I carry some hair clips and ties. Always be prepared and it can help get on the good side of your preceptor if they need one or for a patient or family member.

I bought a huge pack of basic pony tail rubber bands and keep them in my bag. I have long hair and I regularly give them out to patients who just want their hair out of their face or I can braid it up for them.

When you sign into the computer in hospital now you can use your badge and some allow fingerprint so retractable badges are good so you don't have to keep unclipping
