Hi Reg ! Been loving your instructional videos and learning a ton. My driving instructor had his ROSPA Gold and had 0 faults. Amazing instructor with so much knowledge and wisdom. I passed my driving test on January this year with 4 minors but ive got the attitude like you said of always wanting to improve and become a better driver and be able to tackle different and varying roads / conditions. This will come from experience, i know but i have subscribed and i will keep watching your videos to build that knowledge with the aid of your second edition book which i have just purchased. 👌 Keep up the great work 🚗

I had auto rev matching on my bmw 1 series and I absolutely loved it, actually helped me understand it better when I moved on to cars that didn’t have it

A really helpful video Reg.. Thank you. The last time I was on Honister Pass was on a Suzuki TS50ER in 1981. Had travelled from Fife to Lincolnshire via the Yorkshire Moors to visit the grandparents. Headed back home to Fife via the Lake District. Bike needed a rebore and gearbox oil seals by the time I got home... Happy days..

I went through police driving school using "double declutching", no power steering then. Thanks Reg

Hi Reg, I'm loving your videos. I do have a question though. If we have time for the system of car control we apply the system prior to the turn but if we have a car close behind or towards, we tend to brake gear overlap. Why do we not brake gear overlap every time? Keep up you amazing work.

brilliant to see your relaxed pace along the Newlands pass. I need to go and drive that before the sun come out and the tourists arrive! Practicing down, I'm finding that its better to have the revs slightly too low than slightly too high. The latter gives an ugly jerk forwards... am I the only one finding this?
@RegLocal2 жыл бұрын
The idea is to raise and hold the revs Richard, rather than letting the raise and fall.

Hi, you pause the acceleration and hold there during gear changing or you release it after you press the clutch and then pick the accelerator?

The main problem with Rospa observers is they think they know what gear you need when you know your car better than them. I have driven the car for two years I think I know my car better than they do. Another reason why I am quitting rospa. I think you would make a much better observer

Thanks for the vids. When’s the motorcycle ones coming.

Whan the weather picks up a bit Chris! Not that I don’t ride in the rain, but the cameras don’t perform well in the wet weather

Nice one Reg. I thought you were going to need a snorkel! 😀 I like to use the "responsive gear" to describe the correct gear. When you demoed rev matching you used the constant throttle method. Do you ever blip for a rev match, like the most motorcycle riders do? I do both versions on 2 wheels depending on the situation (DCT in the car).
@RegLocal2 жыл бұрын
It mostly depends on the vehicle Mike. Cars with a light flywheel which rev up & down quickly and have a quick “snicky” gear change action (think light sportscars, Lotuses, Caterhams, Mazda MX5s etc, suit a blip rather than a raise, as do most motorbikes. Other cars (and my c90!) suit a raise and hold of the revs.

@@RegLocal how about a quick video specifically looking at the best use of auto-blip? It hadn't occurred to me to use a different technique rather than just using it to correct my sloppy attempt at rev matching... (does it allow a bit of BGOL too??)

Back in the dark ages, on the police intermediate course (when system had 7 features 😅), we were expected to 'splash' the throttle for downshift.
@persildaz50902 жыл бұрын
Hi Reg, do you advocate 'splash' gear changes for police drivers?
@RegLocal2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but I’ve never heard that term before.
@persildaz50902 жыл бұрын
@@RegLocal might be known as 'blip' gear changes. When changing down you temporarily over rev the car.
