Let me get this straight; You ride around in only Turbo mode and are disappointed in the range, yet if you had it to do all over again you'd get an SL?

Was it a 2022 or 2023? There was a top of the line model that they were selling for that price but it was the 2022. I wanted the EP801 motor. I havent had any issues lately. It's been raining a lot here in NorCal and I've washed it a couple of times. I have been super careful around the motor. I literally wrap plastic and then cloth around the motor before I start washing it. I know its overkill but I'm just paranoid. As for the battery They tightened it and its flush again. However when riding I have the strap on around the battery just because I don't want to have to go back to the bike shop and have them adjust it again. I did notice a new thing. 🤯🤯🤯. Around where I had my strap the paint fishing was peeling. It almost seemed liked its because of my strap which is weird because the strap doesn't move. Going from an ibis Ripmo to a 50 pound E-bike is very different. I did the same thing purchasing a full powered specialized levo. The bike is so heavy and capable. It doesn’t take that much skill to ride very technical steep trails. I was also using it almost exclusively in Eco mode, so I definitely didn’t need all the battery power. Most of my rides are under three hours, but I was able to ride the Levo from well over four hours, and still have battery power left. I ended up selling it after six months and buying a levo SL, which feels much closer to my regular bike. The new crop of lighter weight E bikes are getting very good like the Santa Cruz heckler SL and levo SL version 2. I put the scram code RSC brakes on my Levo SL and it made a huge difference.

Wow really? The Levo SL only has 350 battery correct? You good with that? I've been playing around with the battery profile or power levels and found out that there was a profile 2 which had 7 levels instead of just Eco-Trail-Boost. Now most of my rides I am on power level 3 of 7 and it works perfectly fine. A 2 mile climb with 700 feet of climbing on full boost takes me 10 minutes. On level 3 of 7 It takes me 14 minutes. Still much faster that the 30 minutes on my Ripmo.

If you are not happy on the Heckler CS 9, you likely won't be happy on any full powered eMTB. You're also comparing apples to oranges wrt the Heckler CS 9 and an SL. I have a 2024 Heckler MX and it's a great bike! That said, I haven't had any issues with the battery release and I've never had any issues with the bike not starting even after riding in wet conditions. If you have expectations of riding an SL in Turbo mode for an extended amount of time, you'll also be disappointed. I'd also say that replacing the Fox 38 with a Zeb isn't necessary due to the fork being a Fox branded product and the shock being a Rockshox branded product. They work well together. I'm puzzled by both your expectations and review. I question whether you will ever be satisfied but wish you well in your journey.
@LivingInTheBayAreaToday10 ай бұрын
Steve you are not way off. Like I have said it was an expectation issue and then when you add some of the problems that I have encountered that made the whole experience a little bit on the downside. Like I said at the end. The bike rides well.😁 As for the SL, I know I'll also be disappointed with the battery. The one thing that sticks with me when I was trying the SL was how it really felt like just like my Ripmo in terms of weight. I rode it without the power and it just seems like a regular bike. As for the ZEB that's just a preference thing. I was actually going to take the Fox factory fork and shock from my Ripmo and move it to the Heckler but a lot more work. Since the shop had a $600 card promo plus gave me a discount on a new one, I figured why not 🤣. I wish I could ride the damm thing. It's been raining like crazy and havent ridden in 2 weeks. I always think ebike videos shy away from the actual reality of owning and using ebikes, and coming from a normal bike to one of these is a big learning curve. You have to brake different and use the trails differently too...up and down! This would be the same story on any brand of ebike. That means it is capable of a 26mile 2600ft ride, not too bad at all. Seems like you had high expectations for typical e-bike range in turbo mode. I have a Specialized Kenevo with 700wh, and I am 300lbs, I can just barely make it through 2 Fullerton Loops in turbo mode, which is a total of 22 miles and 2200ft of climbing. Those little paint chips are going to happen, get some touch-up paint and just ride it! I have had a scratch or chip on my top tube within the first month on every e-bike I have had, and I am very careful with my bikes, it just happens. It's usually my friends fault, while loading or unloading especially, so I don't let anyone handle my bikes anymore LOL The more work you do yourself, the less likely it is to get damaged at a bike shop, so invest in tools rather than paying for someone else's labor. They will never treat your bike like you would yourself. Also, these bikes are assembled as fast as possible at the bike shop, usually by someone making minimum wage, so I would EXPECT it to need immediate maintenance, and a 100% bolt torque check. Bleeding brakes is easy, a $25 Amazon kit makes it a breeze. Every singe bike I have bought was built no where near my personal level of attention to detail. Get a little 1/4" drive digital torque wrench, a good quality allen and torx set, and do everything yourself, all the tools you need costs less than one trip to the bike shop, and it gets done at your home, on your schedule. Just my .02.

Dude in boost the batteries last nothing if you’ve gone from analogue to e bike trail is more than sufficient , plus double the distance , boost is just for serious steep tech , I never use boost as I want a full day , mine in setting five did 25 miles , you need to change the way you use the power , kick of in boost and monitor still tell you range it’s tiny . You sound fit so I don’t get why you Cadburys all day . Try trail 👍👍👍

I wouldnt worry too much about shedding weight on a 54lb bike. Not going to make a whole lot of difference. I'd go for durability. When my current drivetrain wears out (which will happen way quicker on an E-Bike) i'm going Shimano Linkglide 300% more durable. The Code's are decent brakes, but there is an art to bleeding them correctly..

I bought a Fathom e2 29 and for alot of money.. Battery doesn't remove because the seal is bent without a screw driver, rear hub failed in a week so it never got repaired as an online order, Front forks were shit sun tour ones as well tuning the ride and no tubeless as stock, I didn't wing and whine about it I bought a Fortus 30 pro 5 rear wheel and turned it into tubeless (front and rear) upgraded the front fork to a Fox 34 Performance, upgraded the pedals too V12 mags and used silicone spray on the battery rubber seals so it removes easier.. It's like a different bike.. you'll never buy a bike off the rack and be happy because it won't have the parts you want.. coming from a 2001 Kona stuff with all Chris King stuff on it I know... All E bikes have issues you just have to accept it's tech that will need replacing just spend money on the suspension and wheels and buy the base model then when it's time to upgrade you service the good items and move across tbh.. Battery is overlooked on Bikes and Giant has the best as its Cobalt based so they last much much longer.. Shame the bikes are mediocre but again in a sale.. with upgrades you can build a sick bike for much less than a Santa Cruz.
