There is a HUGE Elephant in the Room that is NOT discussed is your SOURCE of income You used to be able to come to Florida because it was affordable to live on Social Security or a FIXED retirement check. Because the cost of Insurance is increasing faster than cost of living increases with SSI you NEED ADDITIONAL SOURCES OF INCOME BEFORE YOU MOVE HERE Passive income like Rental, Royalties etc is a MUST have in assisting with these increasing costs of living here. Don’t leave your home without it. Even selling your existing home and thinking you come here pay full price for the new home without a Mortgage. You will be shocked of how many people here are moving bc the increases in Insurance, H.O.A.s, and potential Additional Condo Assessment fees will totally wash out your life long Savings over time. There’s no guarantee it will be a one and done assessment. Just like your roof and water heater etc at current home it will need to be replaced here over AGAIN. And these costs here are Not for the faint of heart. So, Due Diligence with a Financial Advisor is a Must BEFORE you move here. Good Luck.

The economic market in Florida have flipped big time!!!…i hope and pray the remote workers take their higher wages back to where they came from because their pricing us locals out!.and the greedy landlords got overzealous and jacked up rent for very run down properties!

Some of the changes are happening everywhere not just Florida. Our house tripled in value, or if your buying cost 3 times more. Polarizing politics are everywhere. Because of interest rate hikes it cost more than ever to buy a house. Because of inflation, wages could never keep up. Almost every state in the US has extreme weather cold short days in North tornadoes in mid west, even California has earthquakes and extreme drought in South West. So if you're not happy in Florida good luck finding something better anywhere else. If one place was perfect, everyone would move there and ruin it.

Tell me about it. 😢 I'm born and raised in SoCal. It's s***. The weather is nice but boring and we still get some hurricanes, tornadoes, people don't know that because they are mild for sure but they do damage. Flooding recently made thousands of people lose their homes (cars were floating away down the sides of freeways). We pay taxes out the nose on income and everything else and they don't funnel back to communities that need it. Crime is rising consistently everywhere. It's basically impossible to run a small business. Even if you do resale online CA taxes more.... The schools are crap. We have barely any freedom and protection for our kids. One saving grace is homeschool and I'm sure the psychopath Gov Newsome would do away with that if he could. Mindless policies wanting to wreck our grid with forcing electric cars (which do as much or more pollution to the environment....) when our grid can't maintain summer weather without black outs. Also how do ppl think the grid is run? Magic? How are solar panels made? It all takes fuel.... Groceries and gas and gas tax is crazy. Healthcare is a joke. Had to find a small clinic with a reasonable doctor and now that she's homeschooling her kids, I am out of a doctor that knows the difference between @$$ and elbow. But there are still plenty of people that think it's the bees knees out here. Most expensive properties are owned by people that don't live here....let that sink in. They are out of country most the year or from another state/country. Or just super old.

@@ari3lz3pp wtf are you talking about? Hurricanes and tornadoes? Socal doesn't get those. Ok..... Maybe the fake one two years ago, but Jesus... Oh wait sorry to invoke your fake savior. Let's keep on with non forward thinking and no policies to figure out real problems. We have existing infrastructure that will be used in moving green policies forward, there using your misguided point in thinking we have to use old tech to build new. Of course we will!! while building true efficient methods going forward, we have to use existing infrastructure to lay groundwork! Your simple mind can't comprehend how it takes policy and action to move forward, while maximizing current industry to supplant old ways and build new and better. It's also of that the swath of red goes through the most impoverished parts of the country while the major metropolises drive the economy. Do you want roads that are passable year round in the sticks? Well, thank the big city in your state. If we could all come together with a real solution, it would be great. You seen to hate people actually trying to enact any kind of positive change. You just complain that we aren't doing enough, while voting against your own interest. If you can't see the hypocrisy of what you wrote, I feel sorry for your simple mind.

Yes I keep saying Florida is the land of extremes. You have very rich and the very poor. You have NE city slickers and southern rednecks. 100 year olds on the road wanting to do 20mph under the limit, others wanting to go 20+ over. Lots of very snooty people and also lots of trashy people. Some very nice friendly people and the totally bat poop crazy. The contrast of all these very different people living in one place makes for just a very bizarre place to live. It gets daunting putting up with all the wackiness on a daily basis.

In Miami, Traffic has increased exponentially in the past 3 years. It definitely helps to be/ speak Spanish . To get any job, or to communicate with any type of repair person, medical professionals or your cleaning person. Expect books to be removed from school libraries, teachers to be under paid - we are currently 5,000 teachers short because they can’t afford a place to live.

The problem in FL isn’t the traffic, it’s the failure of the government to keep up with infrastructure due to population growth. It’s been like that forever. In NJ there is always road work when new apartments go up or new development is coming in. FL not having state taxes it shows. Plus many places in FL have no street lights which freaks me out being from NJ where we always have street lights. State taxes matter

Fled Southern California 12 years ago for South West Florida on the Gulf with no regrets. That was a time in Florida when you could buy waterfront homes (not condos) with a boat dock for under $350K. Now your waterfront house is worth nearly $1M due to the shortage of waterfront because over a million moved here from Blue States.

As a senior, I've actually outgrown being a sun worshipper. Photo aging is the LAST thing I need more of! Sure, winters are a pain in the Northeast, but they beat the hell out of hurricanes!!! Politically, I would probably prefer a red state. But old habits die hard. And I feel I have memories & a history here, whereas there, it just feels like everyone is from somewhere else, & they're all seeking glamor, & a perpetual paradise that doesn't really exist. The traffic sounds awful, too! There's a lot to be said for roads less traveled. It's maybe a nice place to visit once in a while, but it wouldn't feel like home to me.

Any state, city, or country that has an influx of too many people in a short time suffers!! It’s not easy to sustain, it drives everything up, housing especially. Then there’s added traffic with wear and tear on the roads, and construction for new housing, ruining neighborhoods, schools, etc. unfortunately these days, it’s happening in many states. CA has been experiencing this problem for years now, people leave which is good, but they don’t tell you about the ones still moving here, from other states, still, and from other countries. Probably best to stay where you’re at these days.

Thanks for the info.we considered Florida but as you mentioned some of the changes in cost. Had us looking further North..SC.. Also on your political comment on people leaving a basically conservative state. I think it's good.. Maybe they would consider moving to California.. Good weather and it doesn't get any more corrupt... They can live in the most progressive state in the Union... And they don't need 2 troubled themselves with voting. It's already a no vote state and they can celebrate all the existing and upcoming policies that will turn the state into a second or third world country..

Get an education. California is one of the few states that could survive on its own outside the Union. The vast majority of conservative states would fall into ruin if they weren't held up financially by the taxes taken from liberal states. Liberal states are literally paying for the roads, schools, and infrastructures of states like Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, parts of Florida, Arkansas, etc. YOU'RE WELCOME!

You are so right. Great summary of the factual realities of Florida. When I moved here over 35 years ago, it was my dream come true, but over time, my dream turned into a nightmare. I do regret leaving the northeast, where I grew up, but after I set roots, realized too late what I had gotten myself into, but there was no turning back. I currently advise everyone not to move to Florida, and whoever is already here I encourage them to leave the state as soon as possible and go elsewhere. The state of Florida is good for the rich who live here part-time and use it as a second home. However, as a working-class person, life in Florida is a struggle and daily grind. There are far better alternatives elsewhere in the US. Unless you have a specific reason or purpose to live in Florida don't come, in the long run, other states offer better options and should be seriously considered.

I moved to Florida, many years ago from the midwest.Thought it would be great .No more winters.Problem was,I was used to working in a factory, and making good money. There are no jobs like that in Florida. Most jobs in Florida, are service jobs, which pay a lot less, than factory jobsAlso,my rent was almost double, when I got to Florida. The days were extremely hot.I left, after 2 months, and moved to north central Indiana.Elkhart county,to be exact.I found hundreds of good paying factory jobs there.Been here ever since.

Yeah, you get storms app there, you get tornadoes, hailstorms, rainstorms, big taxes, land taxes. Is much higher in Ohio than it is here. cant stand the devisive politics , Florida was conservative mostly purple State, but reason we may leave is Insane Ridiculous cost of Hurricane Insurance. Also the Auto Insurance is among highest in States. The amount you save on Income taxes will be supplanted by Hurricane Insurance. Prices run $5000 - $15000 year depend on location , South FL, somewhat cheaper in middle of State. Im only paying $4900 , adjacent house at $8000 , we are many miles inland from Intracoastal. So chk ur prices. Btw, the summers here are hellish , Brutal and last like 6 months

For me, politics that embraces racism & book banning, the year round allergy season, the horrible job market, and YES, I miss home are the reasons that I think I will be leaving!!! Though I have enjoyed my time here, it's simply no longer affordable. What I wasn't paying in state income taxes is more than accounted for with home insurance. Property taxes have risen to levels seen up north, in NY, NJ, CT. I do understand that inflation impacts the entire US but Florida is no longer a financial win when accounting for all the financial components.

I notice whenever someone does a video about all the reasons not to live in Florida they live there and love it or they’re a realtor in SC Or other southern states. We live in the suburbs of Cincinnati and home prices have gone up 80%-100 % since we built our home in 2014 and the traffic is getting horrendous not to mention 5-6 months of dark, dreary, cold weather and being stuck inside waiting until mid to late spring for outside activities. Floridians know days and sometimes weeks ahead there’s a hurricane coming so leave it’s ridiculous to take a chance.

We vacation in the Fort Lauderdale area every December for a week. Have been doing so for over 20 years! Parents used to have a condo in Aventura; an uncle lives in Boca Raton. We used to look to relocate to Broward County in mid-2020's as we're both in our early 60's now. We've decided to stay in NJ! Our home is clean, working appliances, minimal maintenance, and weather not too bad for a Philadelphia-area suburban lifestyle. Best reason to stay? Our homeowners insurance is cheap; our car insurance is cheap, our area isn't full of gun carrying White Supremacists who would bother this same-sex, Jewish couple. Of course, vacationers are treated differently in FL, but we've never received the "evil eye" for being a gay couple in Fort Lauderdale. But yes, politics is #1 reason why we stopped following up with a realtor for home prices in Broward. Eventually, the FL Governor will be out of office, but the home prices, the insurance costs, the bad drivers, etc. won't change anytime soon.
