Great review. I had an '85 and an '88 CRX Si. Both manual. They were great little cars, quick off the line and fun to throw around. Typical understeer with the FWD, but you learned to just nose it and go. Plus, being a hatchback you could carry a surprising amount of stuff for such a small car. Finally, this thing was so easy to park that my friends and I came up the the term "CRX parking spot" when looking for a place to park in the city as it could fit in spots that most other cars could not.

William Gson I'm thinking about this too , it may be because it is a tuner car you can modify it easy and you can easily find how a civic works or how to stole it,such a common car. Maybe because young people like civic and there might be more young robber. Tell me what you think.

Car and Driver magazine referred to the CRX Si as the “thin wallet Ferrari”, which wasn’t actually all that hyperbolic. Even though we didn’t get the Japan-spec motor, these things handled like they were on rails and had decent power which made them formidable competitors against their contemporaries from Nissan, Toyota, and Mazda.

I know this video is 4 years old, but it inspired me to trade my Eclipse for a CRX Si. It took me that long to find just a CRX in general lol. Happy that I have one of very few SI models here. I don't drive stick, but I learned how years ago and somehow this car brought back everything. So to anyone who doesn't know how or wants to refresh course on how to drive stick, get this car. You can shift up at 4500 rpm, which most cars can't handle. I usually go around the neighborhood in second or third gear (25 to about 30ish mph). I am having to restore my CRX currently. Busted windshield, hood, front bumper, and currently looking for the original rims. I still use it to go get groceries and occasionally take it out for a quick lap. Thanks for inspiring me to get this car. The Eclipse won't be missed

A friend had a 1984 CRX, with the 1.3 liter engine... and it was a *dog.* Nothing "sporty" about it, slow as tar and steered like a cow.... ... But another friend had a 1990 si, and holy hell that thing was a blast. Not quite as hoon-able as her beloved old Fiat X-19, but definitely a flingable dream. (And obviously more reliable than the Fiat, duh.)

Wonderful video... in brings back memories. I had a '90 CRX Si. It remains my favorite car (nostalgia). The air conditioning went out will driving from work (San Ramon, CA) home (Berkeley, where I rarely if ever used it). The sunroof quit working long before. It was actually otherwise in very good condition (we have minimal rust problems here in the SF Bay Area). It was 12 years old, I didn't want to pay to fix the A/C or sunroof and wanted a new car. I looked at the Audi TT , Toyota's MR2 Spyder and the Mazda Miata. I really did like my 12 year old CRX better. I was more than once criticized for driving my "sports car," often having to correct the those who complained that it was not a sports car that it was an economy car. I averaged 'bout 35 mpg if memory serves correctly. One woman quipped I drove it like a sports car :0. In 2002 I purchased a new S2000, a brilliant machine. I still have it (less than 65,000 mi.) I like it a lot, but not nearly as much as my CRX. I had to purchase another vehicle (2003 Honda Element) just to move things (it has about 170,000 mi.) I haven't had a commute in 5 years. What you said, especially about thievery and offers to purchase the vehicle are true. Excepting that apparently the thieves in the Bay Area knew how to disable the door locks by slightly prying the molding near the lock, damn near every Honda of that era has messed up moldings where the handle meets the metal. My CRX was for me the ultimate utility vehicle. I moved sofas and large trees in it... an incredibly versatile vehicle. If the CRZ was as utilitarian and fun to drive as my CRX I would've consider buying it. Note: I did never modify any aspect of my CRX Si except replacing the oft stolen radio. As i mentioned before when it was 12 years old it had very good appearance and other than the A/C and sunroof good condition. Thanks for the trip....

The CR-X it seems like all the other over-hyped Hondas, the S2K and NSX have less power than you've been lead to believe but are still a blast to drive.

TheS2Guy You speak truth. I have the S2000 and it is a 240 horsepower, 2800 pound machine with a fairly short geared six speed so it's quick, but it isn't fast. But on a good back road it'll just plaster the grin all up and down your face, and you can daily the car and it won't nickel and dime you and it's nice on the highway, and people tend to think it's far newer and far more expensive than it actually is...
@Hachiae9 жыл бұрын
TheS2Guy it is, but if you were to get an overhyped honda that isnt a type R, the CRX would be the one to get.

King Geedorah Oh yeah, I'd love to own a CR-X some day. Until then I'll have to settle for the non-CR-X Civic.
@TrevorReis9 жыл бұрын
Maybe overhyped in a drag race but a CRX can carve through traffic and slalom with the best of them. My stock crx si with 98 hp could out accelerate pretty much anything you're likely to see on the road with 4 wheels though 2nd gear(45ish mph)
@negil9 жыл бұрын
Trevor Reis They're certainly not sluggish cars, but they're not the pseudo-supercars that some owners make them out to be. They're lightweight, have a high red line and handle nicely, and beautiful cars.

In high school my dad bought me one 2 weeks before my 16th birthday, it was a 92 Automatic, all black and clean as hell. 1 Week before my 16th birthday I got my report card, 2 D's and an F. 2 Days before my 16th Birthday my dad sold it to my best friend. 1 Week after my 16th birthday my dad paid $400 Dollars for the neighbors 88 Ford Tempo... i literally had to watch my best friend drive MY CAR to school for the next 2 1/2 years...FML.. 4 Years later i was in Central Texas while serving in the army i managed to buy the same car and loved every single minute of it, what i wouldnt give to have this little thing back. I didnt add any modifications to it, or get a sub in the back. It just ran great and never let me down. Plus it felt really great to send my dad those pictures of the "new car" as if to say 'F you old man, i got one anyway",.....

In the U.S. the first generation of CRX ran from 1984 to 1987. The Si version ran from mid 1985 to 1987 with a complete redesign in 1986, so many 1985 Si parts won't fit the 1986 and 1987 cars. The second generation of CRX ran from 1988 to 1991. My first CRX was a new 1984 model. I got it in Jr. High school. I traded it in on a new 1986 CRX Si that I murdered out, long before it became popular 30 years later. It was black, I put 2% limo tint on the windows and removed the 14 inch allow wheels with Michelin tires and replaced them with black Enkei aluminum mesh wheels with Goodyear Eagle GT Gatorback tires. I then installed a Mugen turbo and exhaust. That was one fun little car. I sold it my senior year in high school for more than I had in it. Not until I started buying midyear Corvettes was I able to sell a car for more than I had in them. I will always have fond memories of my CRX's.

My brother bought an EK hatch, 96 civic. He taught me how to drive manual in it because since he was deployed in another state, I was to be responsible for it since he bought it to have a car here in Cali. Long story short, the car came with noticeable mods, the day after he left back to base, the car was gone. Only had the car for a week. Was found the day after about 8-10 miles away, stripped. I loved that car, and I still love the EK hatches, and I've always wanted a CRX.

Just yesterday while I was out at our local park (lucky not closed) walked back out to the parking lot and saw a CRX in Pristine external condition. Perfect grey paint with no dings or scratches or paint wear (I walked around it after I made sure nobody was looking) and it even had the little red/blue trim on the sides. Head and tail lights weren't dirty, had a fresh coat of wax, thing looked marvelous. That guy is getting some money out of that thing.

I had a '88 CRX Si, which I bought brand new, replacing my '85 Accord SE-i after a wreck, back in the day--about 200 lbs lighter than the older ones like this (I think mandated side door protection added the extra weight?), seat belts that weren't attached to the door. Yeah, there was no back seat, but I was in college, and often had 1 or even two people riding in the back... "area". By the time I traded it for a '99 Civic LX, I swear every conjunction of plastic in the car rattled or squeaked. I had little pieces of paper stuffed in cracks all over the place. I do get nostalgic for it now and then, which is what brought me here. Cheers!
