This video actually starts as an excellent example for viewers of things like Olympic diving to understand what a "no splash" looks like. It's really informative to see where People start out and would it actually feel like for a normal person to attempt to hop off these platforms!! Shout out to everybody for doing something pretty scary and conquering those fears and doing a pretty solid job of it!!
When I was in college I took a water safety class and we were learning how to survive if we went into water from a great height. We had to jump from 33 feet up, like this, or we got a 0 on the assignment. This group rocked it!

My first time wasn't a great feeling. I had a vestibular disorder plus an ear infection, and could barely stand up when I got to the platform. When I jumped I thought, "what am I doing? Why did I do this? This is by far the stupidest thing I've ever done."
@sallylemon58353 жыл бұрын
Pro divers could dive high as they practiced from lowest to highest stages by stages and got used to the highest. Our fears are the guard to our safety and the right way to tackle the fear is going by levels that takes time and practices, not drastically challenge beyond our norm, otherwise it could harm the nerves and senses. There's a reason why fear exists. Fear does not stop people, it guides.

I was a diver years ago in h.s. the springboard, I was asked to go off the platform once and did jump, but with my heart in my chest. I got out of the water terrified. Seemed like open air space no where to go. That absolutely gave me the major confidence to go back to the spring board and feel safe to try new things. Wasn't afraid of harder dives after that. Lol 😆

I loved the video and I'm wanting more. I'm hoping to see volunteers learn a reverse dead man's fall from the 3 meter platform, or pike and tuck dives off the 1 and 3 meter spring boards. I've jumped off those cliffs into the ocean before. I think the place I went was about 8-9m. It was cool to do just so I could say I've done it, but overall was a bad experience. It's so hard to stop the water getting in your nose or ears, I had a really bad headache afterwards. The adrenaline when you're in the air is fun tho. Just a rough landing. Props to these guys for doing 10m. It's a lot harder than you think!

You should do it! I am/was afraid of heights and took up diving (more springboard than platform) as an adult just to see if I could do it, and I still remember the first time I got back to the edge of the pool and realized that I did a full run, jump, dive without even thinking! I'm actually still afraid of things like balconies on tall buildings but jumping deliberately from the board feels like I'm in control. (Also wearing swim leggings and a swim shirt and a nose clip, not the most elegant but it takes the sting out of minor smacks.)

I've jumped off cliffs over 15 meters high, and for some reason it feels a lot less scary than diving off a 10 meter olympic diving platform. There's something about looking down at that pool, where it just looks so tiny and unwelcoming a target. Hilarious, because all the rocks that could be under the cliff landing are of course more dangerous, it just doesn't feel that way.

When I was young, around 10, there was a local pool that had a 10m platform. I learned to jump off of it and even take a few straight dives. I one time decided... I'm going to do this, I'm going to flip! I got 3/4 of the way around and then splatted on my back. It hurt. Sucked the wind out of me. Decided I'd never try that again! So I played sharks and minnows instead. I had some good lung power. Now that I'm older, I wonder if I could do the 10m.

@AlanLamb112 жыл бұрын
I was surprised the advice to keep hands raised- the biggest slaps often are from leaning back or on the bottoms of the arms entering the water waving. Safer entry is arms on the sides but that does require good balance which gets increasingly more difficult the higher the jump. Also there is a huge difference between jumping and diving above 7 meters. I used to regularly dive 3-7 meters and occasionally 10 but then I once dove from 20 meters... ouch. You have to be nearly perfect entering the water and I was maybe 1 inch not square in my shoulders/hands and really hurt my shoulder and had a slight concussion from my hands not fully covering my head. Last summer I dove from 12 meters after not having practiced for a few years and the first dive was perfect and I got too confident and went for twists on the 2nd... that was painful.
