Mythbusters: Do skateboards REALLY have a front and back?

What about you? Can you tell the difference blindfolded? (If you try this, I strongly recommend having your board in the grass, or doing it without trucks). If you have a new board, here's multiple ways to tell which one is the front: - Look at the graphic. For vertical graphics, nose is the top of the graphic. For horizontal graphics, the nose is usually the left (use the other tips below if youre not sure) - Some brands have a little dot/indention at the bolt holes on non-graphic side of the deck, to denote the nose - Nose is steeper off the ground (put board flat on the ground, graphic side down. Put one end up to a wall. Mark the height on wall. Flip board around, check height. One side will be higher) To help tell the difference between the nose/tail while skating: - Use a colored bolt on one end - Use a marker to mark the edge of one end - Griptape with a cutout or design Some special kinds of boards are symmetric. That means the nose/tail are identical. You'd want this for convenience, so you don't have to worry about the orientation of your board before doing a trick. #shorts #skatebasics #skateboarding

I absolutely agree. It was the opposite way in the 80's. If your board had a nose it was more mellow than your tail.

Also with trucks you will feel the difference is broken in. I have different groves worn in my front and back. I also have the back about a half turn tighter than front.

Oooooooooorrr...get a twin tail! I just got my first one after skating Popsicles my whole life and I am totally hooked. You can throw your board down and go, no thinking about it. Also my trucks are kinda loose and bc you can skate both sides, when the board slides out it usually rolls straight and not with the curve from favoring one side of the board. No hate, I love popsicles! Someone once told me that the board with both a nose and a tail is like having a Swiss army knife vs having just a fold out knife...you have more options for different purposes... I still love my twin though 😂 Love peace and bearing grease

One good way to find the nose is look at the bottom graphic. Adjust the board so the graphic reads correctly. Make sure your baker board reads baker. The nose is to your left and tail to the right, or if the graphic is vertical the nose will be on top tail will be the bottom portion on the ground. Another give away, the nose tends to “look” longer and flatter.

Or just make a mark in the grip tape or when putting the grip on make some sort of design that tells you which side is which.

The front side always feels lighter, this is because the length on the front side is slightly shorter. (This is because of the steeper angle) at least that's how my board feels I guess.

Im weird. I can do manual to bs shuv it to nose manual, but there is no way in hell i can do nose manual to nollie fs shuv it to manual. Ive spent so many hours trying. I cant control the nollie fs shuv to land in manual. Nose manuals have always been my weakness, i cant do anything out of them except bs shuvs. Props to you. 🙏

@@derekw9724 bro, its not an annoying feature, jason explained it. the nose is bigger and steeper to help lift the board up with ollies and tricks, and the tail shallower so it pops quicker. the only annoying part is that if you want a symmetrical board they are hard to come by and more expensive.

Most of them aren't. They're not supposed to be. But all the decks are pressed by man, and sometimes they do accidentally get printed upside down. It's human error. I've only read about this online, I've never actually seen an upside printed baker in my 25 years of skating. Some people claim every baker they've skated was upside down. Kinda wild that I've never seen one, and others have seen dozens. I wonder if it's different based on location of manufacturing?

@@LatinoLatinoLatino wow I've still never seen one reverse. Thats wild. Even a Google search said most of them are regular. Must be certain graphics then. I usually see the black and red baker boards, and they've never been backwards. I've skated 3 bakers in my life. None of them lasted more than 3 months so I never went back after that. All of mine were regular. My cousin still skates baker. His is normal. The nose is on the "B" side for his board.

@@LatinoLatinoLatino you're right though. I found a video of Ryan Reynolds popping off of the "B", as if the "B" was the tail. And then every other video of a baker set up is the opposite. I wonder if just his model is made like that.
