Very cool how they use "Monica" reading the scenes. I'm glad I saw Jeff Goldblum in this- he did some very creepy roles early in his career that I could never get out of my head but this let's me see him in a new light. Great movie.

to aMan, we take too much for granted in those days of the 80's - virtually every skilled actor of those days was in this film, and Robert Preston the indefatigable man over decades was a perfect triumph. No swearing, no F words, no vulgarity, and a completely fascinating and intelligent script. RIP to all who have passed on, and long life to all the others! A pity that Heller did not make the credits.

I was shocked at how good this movie was, and it was the very first murder mystery that threw me for a loop over what really happened. A lightening in a bottle cast with a first rate script makes this worth watching over and over again. Robert Preston (RIP) headlining an ensemble of pure talent.. ALL of whom either had already done great things (and would do greater such as William Daniels) or who would go on to do great things themselves (like Jeff Goldblum) was pure genius on the part of the casting director.

I feel very lucky to have discovered this KZbin channel. I have seen and watched many great old movies here that are not widely known by world audiences. The subtitles of the movies on the channel are generally very good. The movie Rehearsal for Murder (1982) should definitely be watched by those who love the murder-mystery genre. Wow! I had completely forgotten about this gem. After watching this, many memories started coming back to me. I had just returned home from college and my whole family watched this together. I even remember my mom made a comment that its by the same people who created Columbo (her favorite show).

Levinson and Link were the exceptional talent behind the success of COLUMBO and other excellent TV movies so I was expecting this to be good, but not totally magnificent! The cleverest TV movie I've ever seen. Very good presentation spoilt only by the many annoying intrusive ad breaks. The only other movies I know of which tie up the viewer in mental knots are Sleuth and Deathtrap, both starring Michael Caine and definitely worth tracking down. 12.20 UK

Bill McCamey was the on set nurse for the film. He was also the set nurse for "The Crow," "Pale Rider," "Predator 2," and "Cannonball Run II." And, he was a set welder for "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" and stage set constructor for "The Right Stuff." That's the kind'a person I want doing first aid on my movie! Someone who not only can patch you up, but can craft you a peg leg or hook if you need it as well! =D

I think this was one of Jeff Goldblum's early roles? The lighting and video quality are poor, but that's to be expected from a TV movie that's nearly 40 years old. The story with its nice old-fashioned mystery and likable actors still holds up. I performed in a stage version of this play in Palo Alto, CA back in 2019 and hope we did this script justice!

Not really. His first on screen role was in Death Wish in 1974, and he was in Annie Hall in 1977, and starred in The Legend of Sleepy Hollowing 1980, among others.

"The play's the thing......" Takes me back to my high school days. Messrs Levinson and Link were the creators of Columbo, and masters of the convoluted plot. Must admit I hadn't seen this movie before, and apart from that Hamlet scene it reminded me a little of Michael Frayn's 'Noises Off'. Wikipedia tells us that Mr Frayn conceived the idea while watching a performance of a play he'd written for Lynn Redgrave, which is a very odd coincidence.

This was enjoyable. The performances from actors were enjoyable. Preston was likeable for sure. The only problem is the ending and resolution is pretty weak. However this is typical of these type of murder mysteries. Overall was fun to watch! 👍😀

The motives less obscure, in the American mystery, only carrying the dead body of a woman of that age and tallness needed something : I saw men pretending they can carry a upright piano upstairs..and couldn't wouldn't do it... he must have dragged her..only and if ever... who works in hospital knows how difficult it is to carry a dead body..it is almost impossible though American movie again and again makes it a true murder case by telling that story. Think how fast adult stop carring children around...not only on arms and shoulders..

You can carry an inert body but it takes physical fitness and some training. You have to learn to do it in firefighter training and in some military training. You need decent core fitness to do it but the fireman's carry is a good method. In the military I've seen small people have to carry big ones in training. Not easy but possible. You do sweat like a pig when you're doing it. I'd also assume that if you weren't in a BDU or work uniform your street clothes would get messed up. Easier for a large reasonably fit man to carry a small to medium sized woman. This assumes the body is limp and not in rigour. Then it would be impossible. As for carrying a grand piano? See the famous Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy short on that.

İt would be easy to carry a stiff across the shoulders. Might be difficult to lift. Anyhow it depends if rigor mortis has set in or if the corpse is limp.
