The major problem I have with this is the fact that people are getting punished for breaking a rule that was NEVER given to them. REI preaches about treating people “fairly” but how is it fair to ban people from returns and exchanges but then to not tell them what the return limit is? REI says it stands behind its gear and guarantees satisfaction. So if you’re a member, and you’re not happy with it, then you should be able to return or exchange it. If REI, thinks a specific return number or exchange limit is egregious, then SAY SO and put a number to it. REI’s current approach IMO, is not fair at all and is actually discrimination.

Yes and also humiliating because now every time you buy something the manager has to come up to the register because the account is flagged and won’t let the sale go through without manager to come up register to ok it with his password and to tell you you can’t bring back . It doesn’t even show up on my account when I log in. I bought a candy bar yesterday and found this out, lol. I won’t be buying again as a member . Everything I ever brought back had tags and only has a day.

You can purchase items as a non-member at checkout and still have 90 days to return. Blocking members won’t stop shameless people from returning Willy-nilly as usual.

I’ve only ever returned items because they didn’t fit (in the case of shoes or clothes) but for tech like the garmin, since they don’t price match, I was able to get the mini 2 for $200 off retail price sold from Amazon which to me made a huge difference of paying $400 vs $200. I’m surprised with their huge losses they don’t price match. Also with trying on shoes or clothes, not everyone lives near an REI, I do, but others might not so I understand not being able to try stuff on in store before buying.

Yeah, this exactly. I'm 3 hours from the nearest REI. Buying clothes generally is a nightmare. The ability to test different sizes and return what doesn't fit is a requirement. If I can't test different sizes and return what doesn't fit, there is no way I'm chancing buying something without the ability to return it.
