My son and I took this tent ong on our 250 mi hike of the John Muir Trail. This tent is well-made/designed and super light. Very impressed with the ease of set up and overall design. This tent fills a niche REI needs in their tent lineup, I would be surprised if they didn't come out with a new version.

Wow! That’s a long one, you guys put that shelter in good use. Yeah, it’s now my luxury tent considering I go without a companion. And since it’s labeled as discontinued.. maybe REI is coming up with a new and better design or perhaps a new color. 👍

REI has yet to release a replacement ( Feb 2023). They best hurry if they hope to capture the next season of tent buyers. I continue to hear good reviews other than you have to be careful with the mesh fabric from catching on gear.

@@robwenman8179 We spent overnight in Joshua Tree and my buddy’s SL1 got ripped on its netting when a gust of about 40-50 mph wind hit our area and the tent hit one of the stakes and creates a big gash on its side. He brought it back to REI to return and they said that it’s discontinued. REI said that Flash Air 1&2 are coming out this March but no info yet for the QD SL 1&2. I might return my SL 2 and get the new design..

Would love a half dome review as well. I am trying to decide between the half and quarter dome

The new Half Dome SL 2 is priced at $329.00 and weighs heavier than the QD SL 2 by 1 lb. So I would suggest to go for the REI coop QD SL 2 which is priced now at $265.

I have the SL1, and love it. ( actually have the 2017 version also) great series of tents.

Thanks for checking out the video. My friend also had the SL1 which he returned due to got damaged on our recent trip. I love the QD, I also have the 2017 QD tent. Now I’ll be using a new REI Flash 2, still brand new.

The pad I’m using is the Nemo Tensor Insulated Regular which is 20 inches in width. I also love this tent for a solo trip, so much room. Thanks for watching! 👍

It is now discontinued. REI store had not come out with the new design yet. But they have this REI Flash 2 which is really nice.

What is the orange tube for?

It’s a repair tube, if a pole broke.. it can be fixed while in camp by placing the broken pole inside and use a duck tape to secure both sides of the orange tube.
