How to LUBE Your Bike CHAIN | ..and CLEAN it too!

I was cleaning my single-speed coaster bike's chain a few years ago and got my fingers caught in the gear! Thank goodness I stopped before my fingers got too far in: no back pedalling with a coaster!

@@rei I lived! I didn't even pass out as I was cleaning the wounds! And then I put on an old dish glove to cover the bandages and finished cleaning my chain! 😁

Right out the gate WD-40 makes a specific lubricant for bike chains. WD-40 is a brand name, not a product

You can get a quart of 80/90 weight automotive gear oil from Walmart for probably 7 or 8 dollars. Apply it with a paint brush to your chain as you rotate the pedals. A quart of gear oil will probably last you 5 or 6 years before you use it all. This "painting the chain with gear oil" method is what motorcycle shops recommend so it will also work for bicycle chains as well.

Skip the oil and go with waxed. Head to a thrift store near you and find a smaller crockpot. Grab some Molten Speed Wax, place the wax into the crockpot and once it liquefies, place your CLEAN chain into it. Follow directions on the wax brand. And presto, no cleaning or lubing the chain for at least 6+ months under heavy usage.

That's it for cleaning? I'm cleaning the whole drive chain with soap thoroughly and maybe also with some kind of grease remover and put then the lub on. If you shift because your cassette isn't clean the chain is collecting all the dirty from it and you have to "clean it" more often. So real Pro tip put on your lub after you cleaned everything an than it works even better and it lasts for longer 👍

@@KevDoes wouldn't grease be betterr. wtare and metal dont mix. why do you have to get all the grease out anyway of a chain if you're not waxing
