How can anything as fine as this be so obscure? I'll never understand it.

Uncanny, how Jeff Barry wrote these Reggae-sounding songs in the early Sixties! Other examples are "Candle In The Wind" (Tony Mitchell) and "Blow Out The Sun" (Della Reese). Later on, his compositions "Sugar, Sugar" and "Montego Bay" became very popular in the Caribbean.

A friend of mine found the Screen-Gems acetate for "Can't Hide The Hurtin'" in the Portobello Road Market in London, several years ago. He was always doing things like that!!

It's a mystery why this wasn't released as a solo single for Ellie. The actual single was released with a obscure singer listed as "Michael-Ann" on a small record label called Kip records. Does anybody know who she actually was?

She was actually very, very nice and extremely talented. She wrote many songs. Google her, you'll be amazed. She passed away in 2009.

That's how she discovered Neil Diamond. He hired her to record demos of songs he wrote when he was still a struggling songwriter. She thought he should be recording and releasing his own songs, so she convinced Jeff Barry that they should produce him.
