75 years ago my dad used to fertilize ammonium nitrate two 40" rows with a Ferguson. He had 320 acres of cotton. Now my son goes no till.

I wouldn’t be afraid to get closer to 50 pound of urea on that patch. 100-150 pound to the acre is fairly normal

I believe I will go a little heavier this year, that was the first time I had used urea for a side dressing application.
@anthonyarnold906 Жыл бұрын
@@hightreevalleyfarm9774 yea definitely better safe than sorry with urea. If your using actual 46-0-0 it can burn anything it sticks to. Wr spread a lot of it on fields in the spring before tillage around here. Another good fertilizer for corn to look into is ammonium sulfate 21-0-0-24S. Gives you a shot of nitrogen and also sulfur. Corn loves sulfur Plus your little safer on the nitrogen side with 21%
@hightreevalleyfarm9774 Жыл бұрын
@@anthonyarnold906 I definitely will check up on that fertilizer, I’ve never heard of it. I like the benefit of that vs. urea or ammonia nitrate since it has a lower percente nitrogen and the added sulfur

50 years ago we always drop nitrogen between the plants 8 inch spacing.

I try to barter and trade for my seed, the only heirloom field corn I've been able to get is truckers favorite yellow(100 seeds). Hopefully I can find Reids yellow dent in the next few years

I ordered some white hickory king and it's pretty good stuff. BIG high yield corn

Hi there. I'm new to this. What is the benefit of hilling corn?
@TheBamaDoc5 ай бұрын
Covers the weeds between the plants and smothers them. Those weeds cut down your yield also keeps nitrogen there for the corn to use

Cultivation use without herbicides and growing crops using heirloom non GMO seed is about as close to being organic as you can get. The biomass produced by the mature corn plant will produce a lot of organic matter that will return to the soil. And with the use of beneficial cover crops at the end of the growing season will return nutrients back to the ground as well.
@inharmonywithearth9982 Жыл бұрын
@@hightreevalleyfarm9774 Yes most farm crops need disturbed soil to thrive. No Till is an excuse to poison the land and waters with non biodegradable herbicide toxins and the hormone disruption causes these weird lgbtq plus ➕ people and ocean dead zones.

@@hightreevalleyfarm9774 Without proper fertilizer the soil will go dead. Cover crops can only fix nitrogen. The clean act has eliminated the sulfur replacement.

I used to only fertilize with mushroom compost and had a shitty to fair garden full of bugs. Now I use compost AND fertilizer and have the healthiest looking and tastiest garden ever !

Great video learned something new I'm new at growing corn I have two rows for a small garden at home my stolks are about knee high but all my leaves on my corn have wholes in them none of the corn stolks are yellow what causes that
@hightreevalleyfarm9774 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Corn is a fairly easy crop to grow in your garden. I’m a little stumped on what could be causing your holes. I’ve seen Japanese beetles on mine before, it may be that or some kind of other bug. Maybe try spraying some pesticide to take care of it. Also check on the underside of the leaves, you may find some bugs or eggs that could lead you in the direction of what kind of pest you’re dealing with!
