A lot of whining about his batoning & abuse of the knife but the entire point of his having done so is to prove the quality of the heat treat and level of durability of Reiff Knives. What he has put the knife through is far beyond what most people will ever do with any knife but it offers a high level of confidence in owning one. I own an F4 & an F3XC. The build quality of both is excellent and though I was skeptical of their choice of G10 for handle material both offer far better grip than the typical ‘pretty’ G10 knives I have such as BRK.

Just got mine not long ago, love it. Feather sticks amazing, batons great and doesn’t chip easily (did when i hit a hard stone but came out easily) yet still razor sharp and good. Plus, adding a lanyard is a must.

Very thorough. Next time you get a knife stuck while batonning, turn the whole mess upside down, stick the point of the blade into a log, hang on to the handle and bash down on the wood you're trying to split. This way, the knife stays put and the wood moves. I like the grind lines on this much better than the TRC Apocalypse because you have a more useable spine length. The TRC always struck me as an overpriced SRK. The real question is when comparing it to the GSO series. That would be a great video.

I do lots of hiking in bear and coyote country with only a knife on me. The finger guard is important to me. How's that finger guard?.... And do you think it would stop your hand from sliding up the blade in a rough situation?

Would you purchase one if you were not given one? I had one and sold it due to the slick G10 scales. I have been thinking of picking up another one though. Great design.

A knife you can bet and preserve your life on as to the price: check their warranty, and what they say about you becoming a member of their family and that they take care of their own, and if its stolen, provide them a police report and they'll replace it!

I really dig the look of this blade and 3v was a good choice. One piece of gear I simply won't go without a the Buck brand folding saw. 5oz., perfect for up to 5 inch logs, shelter size wood 🪵 👌. 5160 spring steel, replaceable blades, lifetime warranty.

It's a high quality knife without a doubt, but like the others I have to say, this Reiff is overpriced when compared to other similar or even more premium brands. It's more expensive than GSO 5.1 which has superior magnacut steel, and it is probably also more expensive than TRC Apoclypse Elmax in places other than US.

Doesn't seem like it's worth the price. It's very plan and looks like survive! knife gso knock off

I don't find it to be quite the same as the Survive...and as far as price...USA made, quality materials...I support it, but definitely pricey. I don't talk much about price and let people make up their own decisions.

Chopping with a knife just hurts my soul to witness. It’s just as senseless as baton-ing. Zero reason to do it especially in a survival scenario. Take care of your tools and they’ll take care of you. If you’re worried about the heat treat, send it in to get HRC tested. Do things the right way.

If you're a car camper and have the luxury to take your entire workshop with you....id agree.....if you are a serious hiker and go for light weight and long distances then it doesnt make sense to take an axe when ypu have a knife which can be used to baton and chop

You would be better off with a hatchet and a Swiss Army knife. It would weigh less than this knife and would do both jobs better. The only people who need survival knives are military pilots because they only have a small box under the ejector seat.

@@yankee23a I teach survival/S.E.R.E courses here in the Appalachian mountains. That ultra light gear excuse is utter nonsense that hipsters use. If you can’t hike a good 15-25 miles in one go with 20-40lbs of reliable gear. You don’t need to be going outdoors. Stick to well known trails if you’re going to be carrying some of the garbage I’ve seen that is “ultra light”. That way when it inevitably fails on you. You’re not lost or far away from a store to get more crappy “ultra light” gear. A small hatchet and a good multi tool will serve you much better than a heavy knife. Leatherman supertool 300 and a reliable hatchet is far superior to this and will weight slightly more but give you much more reliability. That being said. I love a heavy duty knife and can use them for just about anything. But the last thing you want to do is put yourself in a position that eats away at your most important resource. This “survival knife” mentality is a major flaw that is being marketed to death.

@@stalwart263 I semi agree. It entirely depends on one’s skill set and what the goal of the kit is. A heavy duty knife is great if you’re going into hostile territory and need to escape. I wouldn’t do any breaching with a Swiss Army knife or an axe. An Esee 5 on the other hand 👍

@@stalwart263 Why would I need a hatchet where the areas Im going too dont have huge trees and a 6-7 inch blade would suit me better to chop and baton ...all in one...and I dont have a 1kg heavy hatchet weighing me down....about as useless as a boat anchor in the desert
