What is so bad is that James, Earl of Moray was a bad guy in real life. Reign shows him as a good, loving brother. Historically, he made Mary abdicate and became Regent while she was Elizabeth's captive. He connived with Elizabeth Mary's entire life. This by the way is a good video. Thanks!

And the show romanticized Bothwell...the man who arguably kidnapped her and raped her...after the show already included an unnecessary rape scene earlier. The actual history was way more interesting than what Reign gave us, sadly. None of the movies and shows about Mary really show just how terrible Bothwell was and how untrustworthy James was in real life. Both were snakes that used and abused Mary. To make things all the more disgusting, one of not both of those men ordered if not outright killed Darnley and then James raised Mary's son little James to believe that his mother killed his father...while being raised by the very people that most likely really killed his father and lead to his mother's imprisonment and death. The story of Mary Queen of Scots isn't a romance--it's a nightmare and a tragedy which, in my opinion, no book or series has managed to accurately capture. Even the new film with Margot Robbie simplifies things too much. Margaret George's novel on Mary, which is 500+ pages long, comes close enough though in some respects.

Legitimate Sisters & Illegitimate Brothers are such an interesting dynamic in history. Like yeah Mary was the only legitimate child to survive childhood but she wasn't an only child she had a whole bunch of half siblings. And the dynamic a reigning queen with an Illegitimate brother to handle the "men" things like leading the army is seen again and again. Empress Matilda springs to mind as a good example of this.

I guess both are correct: "The House of Stuart, originally Stewart, was a European royal house of Scotland with Breton origin... The royal Stewart line was founded by Robert II whose descendants were kings and queens of Scotland from 1371 until the union with England in 1707. Mary, Queen of Scots was brought up in France where she adopted the French spelling of the name Stuart."

It might be because Mary grew up in France Stewart was difficult to write pronounce, not sure, so she opted for Stuart because it was easier to pronounce for the french, again not sure, and since then her descendants used Stuart
