Alekhines' Gruenfeld is so efficient. Reillys' gun misfired. It was loaded wrong. RRQ instead of RQR...

B-but Alekhine sometimes loaded RQR when phasing into end game.

I analysed another variation of ..Rd8 and figured that after Qxd8 - Nxd8, Rxd8+ - Bf8 (forced), then Bc5, White is winning the Bishop on f8 - that's a Rook, Knight and Bishop for the Queen - that's why I didn't go with that line for Black - the line Mato showed was obviously far better for White. However, I didn't find Black's winning Knight move even if I did go for the following pawn capture at the end - connected passed pawns are so menacing...

I like this game, Mato. Reilly had a triple battery on an open file against Alekhine, and still lost.

4:50 - white Queen take Knight then black Q take w Q, white rook take b rook, bishop f8, white bishop h6 - much more easy way to win for white, Mato ;)

Just curious, Mato; why is your voice so much deeper in recent videos? Your voice from your first few years of videos sounds like a different person

Not just a rocket launcher. He would have needed phosphorus grenades, antipersonel mines, WMD, and some IED's for that endgame.

Two passed pawns (b4 & c4), side by side (protecting each other). To prevent them from promoting to queens, White must lose at least one piece. To be a piece down against Alekhine ... one should simply resign.

Yes alakine was a master of chess preparation and hard work. he was a true chess genius just under capablanca and Bobby Fisher. I was Capablanca and alakine were almost at the same level because capablanca was a lazy ass to study but with greater chess abilities so wach some capablanca vs alekine games. literary rock lee vs sauske kinda fights
