If you guys are talking about pink berry and red mango, those are Korean companies. Take a cheap peach air to Korea and go wild. Lol I believe Korea is also more casual when it comes to clothing. And the women there don't consider a face without makeup to be indecent like in Japan

The reason Champagne is expensive in Japan is because Japan follows international trade rules where the name Champagne can only be on wine that is made in the Champagne region in France. The USA just DGAF and label any sparkling wine Champagne and sell if for $10.

I don't feel Champagne, Wine and Alcohol is expensive in Japan. If you compare Dom or Moet, it's about the same price as the US. Japan doesn't charge high tariffs on Cigarettes and Alcohol so it's relatively inexpensive.

I've been living in South Korea going on two years now. The biggest thing about America I miss is salty foods. When Korea does an American style food, it always ends up sweet. We have mozzarella cheese sticks, but they put sweet potato in them. One time I even had a pizza that had a sweet cream sauce. I recently went to a KFC and got a biscuit....even the biscuit was sweet. It was more like a scone. The foods are usually still good, but I miss the salt lol

I can take my time deciding before hitting the button to order and then after my food is brought to me, I don’t get bothered unless I request something else! It’s wonderful. As far as I know, dryers and dishwashers do exist in Japan but are not as common. They have dryers if you go to a coin laundry and I believe some newer houses have dishwashers. My aunt had a dishwasher at her place which I believe is fairly new. But yeah, they exist but it's not as common.
@kinositajona
@kinositajona 4 жыл бұрын
@@reinascully They have them, I bought my washer-dryer combo for 250k yen and have been using it for 7 years without breaking. That's about 100 yen per day. Totally worth it in my eyes. Even if you add the extra energy, it's maybe another 15 yen per dry cycle. So 115 per day since I run it once a day. Totally worth it. That said, if you rent... landlords usually have restrictions on what you can and can't bring in or use. I also got a dishwasher built in when we built our house. Again, totally worth it in my eyes. But hey, Japanese people don't see the value, different strokes for different folks... but if you build your own house you can literally install anything and even Central Air (which we installed) made by Panasonic is amazing. I wonder what the sales distribution of these products are for Japanese manufacturers for exported devices vs domestically purchased devices... The Panasonic installer guy said Central Air sales in Japan are 99.999% commercial buildings. But the initial cost was akin to 5-6 wall-mounted ACs... and we were thinking of putting in 4-5, so I went with Central Air.
@kinositajona
@kinositajona 4 жыл бұрын
Of course, most people rent, or buy manshon which are pre-built to "generic Japanese tastes" so yeah... no one uses central air because no one builds central air because no one uses central air... Chicken and Egg. Same with Dishwashers and washing machines.

I had a good mix of both Japanese and expat friends in Japan but my American community was one of the things that really helped me miss home less. We had home parties and barbecues, but the best was our Thanksgivings! We’d buy 7 rotisserie chickens from Costco and spend the day making potatoes, pies, and other seasonal food together. And my contacts back at home were amazing at sending me things I missed like hot Cheetos, Cheezits, and Grey Goose. I feel expanding your American community in Japan would help your homesickness greatly. Costco sells real bacon, by the way, and In-n-Out occasionally does popups in Tokyo!

Everytime I would go visit my friend in Saitama the first thing she says is "Did you bring it?" what she means is the spices and what food I can bring that far to make Mexican food. You can't make traditional Mexican food in Japan. I know I'd be at the store in Japan and go "They got not Pollo seasoning... oh no.. they don't have my seasonings." As a Mexican use to have Ranchito huevos con frijoles in the morning and I couldn't make it at all right for her and her husband cause Japan lacks the seasons we have so when I go visit (not now sadly since U.S is banned from everywhere) I try and bring the seasonings I need and the food that can handle like I said a long ass flight to another country. WHAT UP WITH THEM NOT HAVING CENTRAL AIR! I never understood that it's freaking humid hot how the hell. I live in Texas and I thought I was dying some days the humidity got me. I love my best friend and her husband and Japan is beautiful, but damn not where I would live, but I would gladly go on extended vacations too. I was suppose to go visit in the fall this was the first year my daughter would be going with me. They already paid for out tickets it was my daughters birthday gift/my early christmas present since having to quit my job for health reasons. Another reason why I wanted to visit cause I know my health is declining, but people just can't think of others and just wear the damn masks for short amount of time while out and not go out to parties and gather close together and have kept schools closed.. But, we are run by incompetence and greed I'm not on either side I'm just callin it how I see it no one wants to get along and it's all about them not us and people are gullible to take in these actions as good intentions and act with selfish entitlement over shit that is suppose to be helping fellow human beings. @@SnowAnayathatweirdgirl I used to live in Houston myself. One of my favorite places I've lived in and one of the select few places I contemplate retiring in decades later. You know what it really is. It's the propaganda from the 0.1% looking to distract us from the truth that all of the general public's problems stem from them taking almost all of the pie and taking more and more each year. People are stressed and indecent because people don't make as much in terms of spending power like they used to. No benefits, no healthcare, they keep taking away public education funding, etc. Things don't change cause politicians from both sides need to obey those who give the most donations to them. They don't want businesses to completely close down so they tell politicians to keep things running and to brush it off like it's the flu while they stay safe at home themselves. And the people buy it whole. I don't affiliate myself with either side as well. Our system is broken. Our people are pitted against one another and no one points the finger where the source of the problem is. Lobbying and donations controlling politicians and propaganda. Happens in both sides but most egregious from the right.

@@ohdaUtube I say the whole system needs to be cleared. As in fire everyone and we start the fuck over. I don't mean everyone at one, but in stages. We the people finally will be able to vote with our vote if we could just fire them all and start a new. But, that's just a fantasy. That's why we now gotta pray who we vote for isn't fully lying that they will hopefully change things and take the doubt people have been having for so long start to change. Change doesn't happen fast, but I do know this is the most important election of our entire U.S History. We are either gonna go for something different or stay the course and just live with a sense of dread that things will become much worse. I will tell you this I live in West Texas very republican, but today I say an old white bearded white man on the side of the road on one of the busiest streets holding a sign saying "FUCK TRUMP!" and I honked and so did a lot of cars around me cause I don't like the man not just as president as a human being he looks like and just gives the feeling of "If it's not about me I don't care. I need attention and to be told I'm doing good job even when it's bad." I see someone who would try any trick to stay in office. I see a conman basically. I go with my gut when I vote. I didn't vote in 2016 I just couldn't do I regret it? Yes, but at the time I didn't think either was great. But, now I know even if I don't stand with some of what they say they are the better option. I know it's a picking a lesser of two evil scenarios, but shit I mean at this point I have more faith in my 12 y.o running this country than the glazed ham that's in their now. Sorry again long rant essay. You are a trooper
@ohdaUtube
@ohdaUtube 4 жыл бұрын
@@SnowAnayathatweirdgirl as someone who also lived in NYC for a long while, I can say almost everyone in the city knew Trump is/was a conman. It's why I also knew he would win. I didn't like both back then but knew who clearly should never be president. He made it anyway despite that and made me right with my prediction (wish I was wrong). Before firing everyone we need to fix the system. The Supreme Court, several decades ago decided despite direct lobbying payments to politicians would be illegal, indirect lobbying (money donated to politicians for their campaign) is allowed (why???). It's no secret that without money, the chances of a politician getting elected or re-elected is close to 0. This is how people with all the money controls the most powerful country in the world. Without that being deemed illegal, having a new set of politicians won't change money contaminating how our system works. Betsy being in charge of education who wants chartered schools (so they can benefit at the cost of everyday Americans with an even more crumbling education system), science being an elective in Florida cause it's a "belief" instead of a requirement cause, you know, it's what we know as facts, tax cuts (this crazy notion of trickle down that wasn't thought up from an economist), etc. I'm fairly sure the rich want guns around cause it's so easy to make money on their stock if you know what you're doing... Haliburton, 2008 bail outs paying out bonuses after they begged cause they were saying they'd go under and still fired a ton of people... It's all from the same source. Less taxes for the rich every year means significantly less benefits for everyone else. If they already make THAT much more money than basically everyone else in the world, do we really need to let them keep more? Here's the thing, people who've made that much money, they always want more. In Russia, it's to the point that if you've made that much and HADN'T ordered someone to be killed, you're an anomaly. What happens to everyday people is simply collateral damage to them accumulating their wealth. There's no end to it. Again, I don't think most politicians are bad. It's the system that traps them, trains them to behave a certain way, and keeps them there. It's completely broken and people are too poorly educated and can't think critically you understand what the real problem is. I'm not a fan of Pelosi but her HR1 she's trying to pass is a very important first step

Going the opposite way here. My husband and I were stationed in Yokosuka for 3 years and there's a lot I miss from over there. We're stationed in New England right now, so the weather is actually similar, AND we don't have central AC here either, so, we have window units in each bedroom and in our living room... there's baseboard heaters, which are nice in the winter, but that's it. And I think one thing you missed as far as the difference between Japanese and American houses is insulation and double pane windows, if I remember correctly, the Japanese don't do insulation, or is that an old house thing? I just know that US houses are better at keeping the temperatures out, but my father built houses and talked about how American houses are built when I was a kid. I was frustrated by the no Central AC/Heating thing myself when I first got there, but I think it just bothered me in the winter when I needed to take a shower/bath, that the bathroom was almost the same temperature as outside. However, I will say I would definitely pay the extra money for a Japanese toilet with the heated seats and bidet. #1 thing I DON'T miss, the bugs, omg some of them are creepy! However, I am the same when it comes to foods going in the opposite direction, there's a lot I miss from Japan. The mall was walking distance from our house and I was always getting taiyaki, ramen, udon, takoyaki, tonkatsu, okonomiyaki and hamburg steaks, going to the conveyor belt sushi restaurant and, well, any ___don imaginable, katsudon, gyudon, unagidon, etc. I swear I was living off those for a while, I loved the Japanese food scene. That being said, I was actually healthier in Japan than I am here in the US, I don't know if it's portion sizes or the quality of the food, I know when I came back to the US, EVERYTHING tasted super SALTY for about a week.

As an American living in Japan for 6+ year, I feel you on all of this. I have some food suggestions next time you're in Tokyo. Pizza Slice 2 in Omotesando/Aoyama has authentic New York style pizza along with pink lemonade and garlic knots. Chiles in Harajuku and Guzman y Gomez in Harajuku/Shibuya have pretty good Mexican food. There's also Taco Bell but it's like 3x as expensive as it is in the US. Ta-im in Ebisu/Hiroo has Israeli/levantine food such as pita, hummus, and falafel. I told you about Panda Express before, but in Miyashita Park there is also a Jamba Juice. Just went there the other day. Also, I don't know if you have Kaldi Coffee in your area but they sell salsa, hot sauce, and a lot of other imported foods.

13:57, hehe yeah... fun... not scary 😅 so i'm from Texas and for vacation (rip) one year my family flew to New York (the city) and after a few days we went to visit family friends past Buffalo ... by car. During the day it was beautiful, the foresty landscape was gorgeous with the different altitudes and stuff, but at night it started to rain *hard* and in our rental car we could feel the rumble of the wind and could barely see anything, out in the mountains with barely anything around, but i do quite enjoy road trips

Yes. There's a lot of this. It's also why they don't have garbage disposals in the sink. They recycle and have several different bins for different types of recyclables. It's probably also why they don't have central air (waste of electricity to cool down every corner of your house) and dryers (sun is free without waste)

But now that we're back, I miss the fruits from Japan, especially Muscat Grapes! Their fruits are always pristine and delicious! I also miss the combinis a lot! Now that my stomach is doing better, I regret not trying any sushis and a lot of other foods! I can't wait to go back!
