BY THE WAY, just for the record, I did go swimming (Juho), it wasn't videoed but it still happened. 😏 And thanks for watching! We're getting close to 20k subscribers and 100 patrons. To celebrate that we'll do a quick Q&A video where we'll try to answer all your questions. Yep, Sohvi might answer a few questions as well! If you have any questions about anything then please comment down below and we'll do our best to answer as many of them as possible. Please leave your questions as separate comments so that they're easier for me to track! Thanks! (Hopefully we get some questions to begin with 😅).

@Kevin Branton. I’m Norwegian, so I can decipher the names, and I’ve sailed in the same areas, including Svalbard. Being tuff or weak has nothing to do with sea sickness. It’s all about your inner ear fluid. I’ve found that being able to see the horizon even in rough sea state. Being inside & laying down is your enemyyour eyesight helps your brain to correct the slow moving inner ear fluid so laying down doesn’t work you must be vertical, seated & able to see the horizon even if it’s only the next highest swell. I have experienced sailing in a very small 22’ trailer yacht wind speed 45 gusting up to 50kt with huge swells taller then our mast. After re-rigging for storm conditions I went down below to change my very wet clothes into wet weather gear & making the rest of the crew a hot cup of tea. By this time I was quite green a very keen to get back out below, I was the rookie crew member my first sailing (regatta) experience. The crew aware of my situation was doing there level best to keep me inside. So I made a run for it even climbing over them to get up behind the skipper, the highest place in the cockpit. From that point on, as I sipped my cup of tea, I started to feel better while a couple of crew disappeared into the cabin to fill up buckets “ha bloody ha”. So I’ve stuck to this method & never experienced full on sea sickness [don’t lay down]. Hope you try it cos it’s science not theory. Cheers happy sailing really enjoy your channel💚🇳🇿😎

Questions for Sohvi 🙂. 1. Sohvi, for seasickness, when setting out in rough-ish weather, have you tried a combination of putting on a Hyoscine (scopolamine) patch as well as taking a Hyoscine tablet? The tablet works quickly then the patch takes over. 2. Ms Valden asks, "Sohvi, how much sailing experience did you have before joining Juho on these arctic adventures?’ and then, ‘If Juho gets knocked overboard by the boom while you’re having a well earned snooze, are you confident about single-handing the boat to a safe harbour and how much do you think you’ll get when you sell the boat?’ 🤔 and then, ‘Is doing most of the cooking, the rope handling in the snow, the tying off to shore in shit weather and pumping out the half frozen black water tank a good deal for the pay you get as First Mate?’

Hi, a couple of questions for your Q&A: what was your criteria to select and purchase this boat for your trips? If I recall correctly, you have three different heating appliances on board but the boat is not at all insulated. Why did / do you not add insulation? What is your standard roomtemperatur under deck at day and Night? Thanks. You produce incredible shots and the combination skiing & sailing is marvelous! Brgds Finn

Hi. Re your sea sickness: have you tried a foam ear plug in only one ear? Put it in at least 15 mins BEFORE you feel any queeziness - I do it about an hour before just to be safe). Leave in for trip duration. Swap ears quickly if it gets uncomfy. Hypothesis is that having a blocked ear tells your brain that your balance system is malfunctioning so it switches to "visual reference only" mode. This means there are no conflicts berween visual and balance systems which is what usually triggers a primal "spew your stomach contents now because something is not right internally - you may have eaten something bad!!" response. This theory corelates well with the observation that, when one person on a boat starts spewing pretty soon everyone is spewing. Thank Dr Karl Kruzelnitsky on ABC Radio Australia for this little theory. I used to get sick on even calm calm calm water. Longest spew session was 15 hours continuosly on a beautiful night motor sail in perfect conditions on Bas Strait, Vic, Australia. Others have been 4 hrs and 8hrs non-stop ralphing. Before discovering this trick (on Sailing Brittaly channel and well before hearing Dr Karl) I put my NIS29 ketch on the market because I thought I could never sail without being sick. Now I can work in the cabin for hours and on deck any time in any conditions. Hope this helps! Love your channel. Wish I could be doing the same (but somewhere warmer, being an Aussie! - we just have to watch out for kangaroo, wombat and rabbit poop here - no reindeer 8-).

You are a slow burning chunk of coal and you emanate heat through your videos. You’re going to become famous!!! Do you know the series Trapped? You should be given a role in some new episodes or we write a new series. Pirating The Degrees

Rocco Altobelli has asked an excellent question, 6 hours ago, i.e. which tools do you recommend for remote sailing adventures? I will soon need to buy the first of what will become quite a comprehensive set of tools for a yacht which will sail where you are, Sohvi and Juho. To add to Rocco's question, which tools (or specialised maintenance products, e.g. contact cleaner for electrical connections) do you see as a priority, for yachts old or newer, in Arctic conditions?

If I may answer your question for important tools on a sailing vessel I would suggest the one and only WD 40!

Sailing Mistral Ah yes, I’ll definitely include a couple of cans of wd40. But also a good light oil lubricant, perhaps with a Teflon additive. And some electrical contact cleaner.

Question - how long is your anchor chain/rode and have you found yourselves wishing for more? Why haven't we seen you diving on your anchor like we see them doing in the Med? :-O Given that you don't dive on your anchor, does it ever drag?

Oh, "we didn't eat them all" (birds), we didn't even kill a lot of them (me = none!). What we did? We took all land and nature to build houses, roads, airports, harbours, …

Yes, you are absolutely correct.

@Matthias Wewering. Same goes for me, not killed any birds, but still it’s correct to say that “we ate them all”, because we’re humans, and humans did actually almost hunt puffins to extinction, and others actually are now extinct for that reason alone. This has changed over the last 50ish years, in our part of the world, but we shouldn’t forget it happened. Now, our main crime is, as you say, consuming all possible area for our stupid “civilisation”. That has to stop too, and will, one way or another...
