What was the crop? What's the purpose of planting and then cut it down wondering?

The crop was probably mustard, its a very cheep crop to plant and grows fast, when its large enough it's munched and ploughed back into the ground. This is done for a number of reasons, it stops erosion of the soil, it keeps the land weed free because it compete with them, it holds the nitrogen inthe soil and also acts as a very good fertilizer for the next crop. @@michaelwashington2682 Large crops like this shade the soil, cooling it by taking up moisture and transpiring it into the air. Soil warmer than around 90* also basically stops all microbial and root-based activities. Living roots also put root exudates into the substrate which feeds the life in the soil. This same life aids plants by digesting and moving materials to the plant roots to facilitate a healthier plant. When said microbes die, they also release all of their compounds in plant available forms. Win-Win.

What is green manure please anybody?

It's when you raise a secondary crop (e.g. after wheat or other cereals that leave the field early in the summer) and then when those plants produce a lot of biomass, usually just before or during flowering, you incorporate the with the soil, usually with a plow so that you can increase the amount of organic material in the soil. It also helps with erosion and keeps the nutrients from washing away deeper into the soil. Plants which are used as green manure include yellow mustard, rapeseed, legumes such as vetch and clover.

Christopher Souvignet En réalité c'est une mauvaise idée. En broyant tu créer une bouillie qui va être enfouis en fond de raie. Ce qui va provoquer des problèmes de décomposition. Des brin long reparti sur tout le profil du labour se décompose mieux.
