Reinforcement to be designed or Reinforcement to be checked....which one to use when at ETABS

Two important options at ETABS while defining material properties.
1. Reinforcement to be designed : use to design a new building
2. Reinforcement to be checked : use to perform structural assessment of an existing building.

I mean no disrespect, u r doing good job,👍 But no one is able to explain it showing a comparative SFD BMD as to why/how we get additional moment and increased reinforcement when we allow software to design a column.
