I like the 4x4 reinforcement idea, nice job. I have had mine in operation for over five years in Michigan, using the metal channel frame as instructed. The key is filling the floor into the channels with gravel for a weighted anchor to secure against strong wind storms. I also layered a paver brick floor for more ballast. After two years I added gussets and splices from the center rafter to the joist for more rigidity as the wind flexion broke the channel at the top of the wall, both ends. Also set 4, raised on cinder blocks, 4' x 6' x 14' deep beds, added electric power, a temp controlled fan and water with a timer and soaker hoses. Other modifications included riveting all panels in place. Added two filtered vents, one each side of the doors. Really have enjoyed this system.

Hi Tony, I just purchased mine and want to do similar enhancements. What type of fan did you use and temp control? did you screw down the vents on top and just use louvers with the fan? I live in GA and feel like the summer heat may be too much at times.

Wow! You've been busy! I actually just roasted my seedlings because I don't have anything automated out there. It was a sunny 50 outside and 110 inside. Whoops! It's my first year doing my own seedlings. Lesson learned.

I also did 4x4 reinforcements BEFORE I assembled it. I will never have to worry about it going anywhere. Also added a wooden grow box at the back end,I live in a colder climate so the growing season is shorter.

Wow, overkill on the interior support beams! I just put electrial conduit at 45° at all 4 corners. My greenhouse feels rock solid now. It has survived 70+ mph winds with no problem. The vent are horrible. Plan on permanently closing them and adding a vent fan. Tape up the ends on the top and bottom door rails and add some oil. Doors will glide like they are floating on air.
@HomesteadingHijinks5 жыл бұрын
We get wind every day at 3pm. The other day it was close to 100mph. The greenhouse has also been hit by a microburst and lived to tell the tale. For my area, this works. Plus the wood gave me something to hang stuff on.
@GluefactoryOffroad4 жыл бұрын
@@HomesteadingHijinks May be "overkill" to some but I certainly understand your reasoning and I myself would have done the same. And too as you said, it would give "something to hang stuff on." Good job in my opinion.

It's a little more work but standing with a belt sander would smooth the tops of those boards to eliminate snags and finding future splinters in yourself...you'd be amazed the minor things you might do and find splinters...you'll be happy to rub against smooth edges without worrying about doing tweezer surgery to yourself lol

Maybe a dumb question....I am assuming that you assembled the greenhouse first and afterward installed the interior wood frame, correct? Really nice job that I plant to replicate. Thank you.
@HomesteadingHijinks4 жыл бұрын
Actually it's kind of a combo, the wooden frame was done based on the the base frame being squared up. Marked the ground with marking paint for the piers. Once the concrete was set we got the aluminum frame up, then the wood frame. Being that it was 10x12, we cut the wood accordingly and had it ready to go.

Great video and tips! I plan on making a kit that doubles up what I did for securing the panels based on your pattern. I only did the centers and it's held up pretty well so far. I can totally see the advantages of doing two though. Check out my vid and tell me what you think and if it would have helped you during your build. Thanks!
