Here on my channel, I am renovating a 250 year old stone cottage on my property in Normandy, France. By using traditional, low-waste and off-grid methods, I'm aiming to keep the charm and character of this old building, and turn it into a furnished, finished home for family whilst keeping environmental impact as low as possible. There will also be content on living in France, visiting beautiful rural places, hunting for antiques, gardening and more! Hit subscribe if you would like to keep up with my journey, and hit the notification bell to be alerted when we go LIVE where we have a first viewing of the video as it is published with a live chat so I can answer all your questions! See you in Sean's World.

Sean, I love your videos, because they are no nonsense, calm, instructive, and kind. Sam is a loving wife and great support while she makes sure you don’t hurt yourself. You’re a wonderful family and I’m always amazed how you can do some of these jobs all alone. The old cottage is being saved by you one step at a time. Be careful up on that scaffold. xx

Thank you for including us in your journey to restore this into an incredible building. I look forward to your posts. The way you explained why and how to do the repairs really makes me appreciate all the hard work that went into making homes many years ago with none of the tools we have now. I just love your beautiful wife and the fur babies. Keep up the good work.

Why do I enjoy watching these videos so much? Repair & renovation of an ancient building/cottage is beyond my understanding, living in the USA, a relatively new country! We are not an ancient civilization with centuries-old buildings & architecture, but the art of restoring these properties is fascinating & the dedication it takes to do so, very admirable, Sean!! So, thank you!! 🇺🇸

Amazing how you get the horizontal and verticals to fit so well, Hercules. You make it look almost easy, though we all know it is a finely tuned jigsaw puzzle. You are a master! Jeesh, how did Noah manage to build an ark, an upside down roof? He took 40 years, I think, and didn't have any stoneman skills, like you. You would have been a cathedral builder, I just know it. Is there nothing you can't do? Thank you, again, for sharing your unbelievable skills...Very interesting video, again...Keep them coming!!!

Sean! I don’t understand why the stones were not cemented , as you are doing, in the first place. This was built to be inhabited by people was it not? Would they have actually lived with the bare, seemingly almost loose stones? Life there must have been hard! Also, I noticed how the roof wiggled while you were putting in those screws. Will you have to make it more tight?
@Seans_World
@Seans_World 7 ай бұрын
The stones have only become loose due to the leaking roof. But yes bare stone walls are not uncommon, although my cottage had render. The movement you see was the camera wobbling on the scaffolding.

Sean, have you considered using jacks to elevate the purlin and roof a couple inches to remediate the roof bow? Then the far end of the purlin would be up closer to where it's supposed to be and could then be supported with new rock work? Hard to tell from my couch though how much lifting the roof needs or can handle!
