Reinhard Mey, Konstantin Wecker and Hannes Wader are the three musketeers or kings of the singer-songwriter scene of the 70's and 80's. This song was written by Hannes and there is a beautyfull live performance on yt where all three perform this song.

More precisely, it was *translated* by Hannes Wader. He only rewrote the chorus. The original song is called "Green Fields of France" by Eric Bogle.

I already knew the song, I once went through a phase where I heard some of Reinhard's songs. The older I get, the more these songs affect me and they become more and more important as human history progresses. A truly exceptional songwriter. We should hear more Reinhard Mey songs here and spread them around the world at least a little...

Konstantin Wecker used to be a pretty wellknown singer /songwriter in the 70ties /early 80ies. Please don't miss "Nein ich lass dich nicht allein" by Reinhard Mey. No political one but a very sad one for a dying friend. As you once said before, he is such a good story teller and I am sure you will like it a lot! (There are English subtitles!) Es ist an der Zeit is today more important than ever! 😒Mankind will never learn 😢😢😢But as we say in Germany, Die Hoffnung stirbt zuletzt! Thanks for your reaction ❤

This is actually a sort of cover version. The original was written by Scottish/Australian Singer Songwriter Eric Bogle. The original was called "Green fields of France". Konstantin Wecker was the German Singer Songwriter who translated, or rather re-wrote the text in German. Reinhard Mey (pronounced "May") and Konstantin Wecker, together with a third guy, Hannes Wader, were quite the influential trio in the late 1960s to mid 70s in Germany. Comparable, perhaps, to Pete Seeger in the US. (acutally, R. Mey and H. Wader did loads of gigs together, until they realized that their styles were so different that they had kind of a "Reinhard" audience and a "Hannes" Audience that began to dislike each other. At that point they parted ways concert wise, but stayed friends privately.)

The Melodie is a cover and the theme of war. But the two Songs couldn't be more different concerning their message. And the german version is from Hannes Wader not from Konstantin Wecker.

Greetings and Love from Germany again 💚...you're unbelieveable, serious...when i think bout what we have done to you..we gave you Rammstein and got you addicted, we gave you 'Loriot' and made you literally laugh your head off, we gave you videos of one of the most beautiful countries on this planet (our country) and gave you the endless desire to leave the shitty states and to become a German citizen. With 'Mey & Friends' we gave you so many heartbreaking masterpieces from the best musicians ever and, who would have thought, even made you cry in front of the camera, honestly, i'm really sorry for that😢...but you, it's hard to believe, you still stand by Germany, You hardly ever complained about it and you didn't say one evil word about us. This is a translation/German cover of "The Green Fields of France", aka "Willie McBride". There are several versions out there; my favorite is by The Corries, here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6rMfZmJfbikmtU Even the original is a very early anti-war song. Both Reinhard Mey and Konstantin Wecker are of the first generation of singer/songwriters, called "Liedermacher" (song crafters) in Germany that rose to fame since the 1960s. They're both still going. And another suggestion for you by Reinhard Mey, "Sei wachsam" (Be aware); here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rnSmoIVti551hdE -- very relevant in this time of elections everywhere!

Konstantin Wecker is also known as Koks_tantin (Coke_stantine) Wecker. According to his own statement, he consumed up to seven grams of freebase/cocaine base and cocaine daily from 1994 until his arrest on November 29, 1995 and suffered from delusions.
